At the back, a terrace in paving sits directly against the house. That is where the transition becomes most direct: stone underfoot, then glass, then the living room beyond. A rear extension with glass extends this reading even further, pulling the outside visually into the plan. It does not read as a separate object. It works as a continuation of the house, with the brick base still anchoring the volume and the glazing opening it up to the garden.

Open living space with sightlines to the terrace

Inside, the structure is visible immediately. Timber beams run across the ceiling and give the rooms a clear measure. They keep the ceiling from disappearing into a blank plane, especially above the kitchen, where the dark worktop and cooking zone sit below them. The materials stay restrained: wood above, glass at the edge, stone in the background. Between kitchen and dining area, the view remains open, so the rooms stay connected through sightlines instead of walls.

The kitchen looks toward the dining area and then to a large window wall beside it. That outward view is part of the room’s use, not just its setting. From inside, the garden stays visible while cooking or sitting at the table; from outside, the interior remains readable behind the glass. Because the work surface is dark and quiet, the timber overhead and the daylight from the windows take over visually. Because the glazing rises high, the room does more than look sideways into the garden; it also lifts the gaze toward the ceiling beams above. A stone or brick chimney wall appears in part of the interior, giving the room a heavier anchor among the lighter surfaces.

That contrast matters. The seating area remains distinct, even with the broad opening to the outside. A glazed or sliding opening marks the threshold, but it does not break the room apart.
