Within a newly built first-floor home, it was asked to create an open kitchen on the one hand and to design a pleasant living space on the other. The desire to provide a kitchen island in a space with a width of 3m20 was not an obvious one. Finally, it was decided to provide only a 75 cm wide passage on one side of the kitchen island. This was a departure from the classic ergonomic sizes, but an optimal spatial effect was created. The use of light materials in combination with one expressive wood species created a light and powerful interior. One custom-made piece of furniture was provided in the living room, which contains several functions. At the height of the dining room, this piece of furniture forms a sideboard and then completely fills the wall as a TV and fireplace unit. To make the seating area appear more spacious and to emphasize the beautiful view of the Scheldt, this piece of furniture was finished in a classy white high-gloss lacquer.
