Villa renovation preserving original character: light, custom detailing and a refined flooring mix

An asymmetrical gable roof still sets the line of the house, but the renovation has shifted the experience inside. Light now travels through rooms with round openings, a curved passage and long sightlines, while original elements such as the freestanding fireplace and stained glass detail remain in place. The result is a villa renovation preserving original character without freezing the interior in the past.

Original rooms, kept visible

The house was already known for its 1970s profile and its bungalow-like tendency, and that silhouette still reads clearly in the interior. Under the sloping roof, wooden ceiling work pulls the eye across the space and gives the rooms a steady rhythm. The renovation did not try to hide that structure. Instead, it leaves the existing frame visible and lets new finishes sit around it, so the older architecture stays legible as you move through the house.

One of the most direct reminders of the original plan is the freestanding fireplace. It sits as a fixed point in the room, with the stained glass detail nearby as a second marker of the earlier house. Those elements keep their weight even after the changes around them. New walls, new finishes and altered room sizes can be read against them, which makes the villa renovation preserving original character feel grounded rather than decorative.

More space, but the plan still reads clearly

The renovation expanded the number of bedrooms and bathrooms and added a pool, yet the interior does not feel overfilled. Instead, the plan moves through wider transitions, with openings that soften the change from one zone to the next. A bright living interior is followed by a hall with stone underfoot, and then by areas where the floor shifts again. The sequence is simple to read, but it never becomes flat. Each step has its own material edge and ceiling line.

Custom built-in cabinetry supports that clarity. Rather than breaking the rooms into loose pieces, the cabinetry sits into the walls and leaves the circulation open. In several views, the storage is paired with niches and controlled lighting, so the walls do more than enclose a room. They hold objects, guide movement and keep the floor plane open. That is especially visible where a round wall opening frames the next space and turns a short passage into part of the composition.

Round openings and long sightlines

Rounding a corner here often means passing through a shaped opening or a curved doorway. Those details interrupt the hard edges of the plan and make the route feel more layered. In one view, a circular cut-out opens toward brickwork and timber beyond. In another, a boogvormige doorgang frames the next room with a wooden outline. These gestures are small, but they change how the house is read: not as a chain of boxes, but as a set of linked spaces with clear transitions.

Daylight is what keeps those transitions from becoming heavy. Large windows and bright wall surfaces lift the rooms, especially where the roof slopes and the ceiling structure is exposed. The bright interior with daylight shows the joinery, the openings and the flooring without harsh contrast. Even the more enclosed corners remain readable because the light lands on the wood, the plaster and the stone in different ways. That variation gives the renovation its pace.

Wood above, stone below

Material changes are used with restraint. In the hall, natural stone flooring gives the entrance area a denser, cooler surface before the house opens toward parquet and timber finishes. That shift matters because it marks a threshold without requiring much else. Upstairs and in the living areas, herringbone parquet brings a tighter pattern to the floor and helps the rooms feel more settled. The move from stone to parquet is one of the clearest signs that this is a home renovation years 70 case rather than a full remake.

The ceiling does just as much work as the floor. Warm wood appears in planks and visible members, especially in rooms under the sloped roof and in the living zone where the timber runs across the top of the space. The combination of wood overhead and patterned parquet below gives the rooms a measured depth. Nothing is overly polished. The surfaces are allowed to show their grain, joints and direction, which keeps the renovation close to the original architecture.

Bathrooms and transitions with a firmer edge

The bathrooms introduce a different register. Ceramic tile appears in the wet spaces, including a floor set out in a diamond or cross-like pattern. A natural stone vanity brings a heavier note into the room, while the mirror and white built-in elements keep the composition sharp. A shower corner with an inset shelf shows how the renovation handles smaller spaces: straightforward detailing, clear lines and enough contrast between tile, stone and plaster to keep the room readable in one glance.

That same precision shows up in the built-in wash area, where the stone surface and framed mirror sit against lighter walls. There is no excess trimming. The surfaces meet cleanly, and the room stays focused on use without becoming bare. As part of the villa renovation preserving original character, these wet rooms matter because they update the house without diluting the older architectural cues elsewhere. The new parts do their job quietly and leave the original elements standing out more clearly.

A renovation that keeps the house legible

The strongest quality of the project is the way it keeps old and new from blurring together. A freestanding fireplace, a stained glass detail, an asymmetrical gable roof and round wall opening remain visible as references. Around them, custom built-in cabinetry, natural stone flooring, herringbone parquet and brighter room transitions update the everyday use of the house. The result is not a stylistic statement. It is a careful adjustment of rooms, surfaces and routes, with enough restraint to let the original character remain easy to read.

That clarity is what carries the project through every room. The plan has been extended, the bathrooms multiplied and the living areas refreshed, but the house still feels anchored by its first architectural ideas. Under the wood ceiling, across the stone hall and along the curved openings, the villa renovation preserving original character stays visible in the details rather than in a single grand gesture.
