Modern Japandi kitchen with wood cabinet fronts and a marble-look backsplash

Vertical wood fronts set the rhythm in this modern Japandi kitchen, where the wall composition stays calm and the details do the work. The cabinetry rises in clean bands, interrupted by a light backsplash and a pale work surface that keeps the room from feeling heavy. A gold faucet stands out against the sink zone, while black built-in appliances sit back in the wall unit instead of taking over the view. The result is restrained, but never empty.

Wood panels, light stone and a measured layout

The first thing you read in the room is the surface order. Wood fronts with vertical ribbing bring texture without breaking the straight lines, and the pale counter below them makes the whole run feel lighter. Across from that, the marble-look backsplash adds a softer grain, with faint veining that only shows once you come close. It is that kind of detail that suits a modern Japandi kitchen: quiet at a distance, precise up close.

The layout follows the same discipline. Storage is pushed into tall wall modules, which keeps the floor area visually open and gives the working zone a compact profile. Black appliances are tucked into the cabinetry rather than scattered across the room. That dark block holds the composition together and leaves the wood, stone and light surfaces to carry the atmosphere. Dekton Rem is mentioned as the countertop material, and it also appears in the adjoining living area on a custom TV unit.

What the backsplash and sink zone do

The sink wall is the most expressive part of the kitchen. Light hits the marble-look backsplash first, then slides onto the pale work surface and the curved line of the gold faucet. The faucet reads as a small accent, but it changes the whole sink zone: it pulls the eye forward and gives the otherwise muted palette one clear point of contrast. Above it, the strip lighting under the upper run adds a warm edge that softens the transition between wall and countertop.

That layered lighting matters here because the room itself is deliberately spare. Ceiling spots and rail-mounted cylindrical fixtures define the larger volume, while the hidden strip light pulls attention to the task area. The mix is practical, but it also sharpens the geometry of the kitchen. You see the upper cabinets, the recesses, and the working line more clearly once the light traces them.

Black appliances, tucked into the wall

The black built-in appliances sit in a tall module and give the kitchen a darker anchor. They are visible, but they do not interrupt the run of fronts. In a room built around light wood and pale stone, that contrast matters. It keeps the kitchen from becoming too soft and gives the wall structure. The vertical wood pattern next to the dark appliances also makes the cabinet height read more clearly, which strengthens the room’s simple proportions.

Nothing here is overdrawn. Handles are kept discreet, the cabinet faces stay flat, and the materials do the talking. The wood fronts carry enough texture to feel lived with, while the stone-look surfaces remain smooth and controlled. That combination gives the modern Japandi kitchen its calm pace without turning it into a display piece.

Dekton Rem carried into the living area

The same material named for the kitchen countertop returns in the living context as a custom TV unit. There, it is paired with a white wall and a rectangular fireplace opening, so the piece reads as part of a broader interior line rather than a separate object. The TV unit sits low and horizontal, which echoes the kitchen’s emphasis on clear bands and measured surfaces. It is a useful reminder that this project is not only about one room, but about how a material can continue from cooking area to living space.

That living wall is spare in its own way. The television is set into the composition, and the fireplace opening is framed with a hard, rectilinear outline. A curtain or blind is visible at the side, which softens the edge of the room without changing its directness. In that setting, the custom TV unit with Dekton Rem acts as the quieter companion to the kitchen: same restraint, different function.

Close-up details that shape the room

Seen in close-up, the kitchen relies on contrast rather than decoration. The marble-look backsplash shows light veining. The faucet has a warm metallic finish. The countertop stays pale enough to reflect light, while the wood panels hold the vertical pattern that keeps the wall from flattening out. These are small decisions, but together they give the room its structure. They also explain why the project reads as a modern Japandi kitchen without needing much more than material, line and light.

The lighting finishes that reading. Warm strip lighting in the niche or beneath the upper section draws a thin line across the wall and makes the backsplash look deeper. Overhead, the black rail spots keep the ceiling visually active, but they do not compete with the cabinetry. The whole room works by restraint: one accent in metal, one dark appliance block, one textured wood system, and a stone surface that stays present without shouting.

A kitchen that stays legible from every angle

What makes the room convincing is how clearly each layer can be read. The fronts, the worktop, the backsplash, the appliances and the lighting all occupy distinct roles. You can stand at the sink and see the gold faucet against the pale surface, or look back from the living area and notice how the material language continues in the TV unit. That consistency is what gives the space its order. It is a modern Japandi kitchen built from a few controlled moves, and each one is visible in the frame.
