Rectangular skimmer pool with a wooden terrace and covered lounge

The rectangular skimmer pool sets the tone from the first view: a long, straight basin with an inox look, a clear waterline and a terrace that runs tight along its edge. The 8 x 3 x 1.5 metre format leaves no doubt about the project’s focus. A plage softens one end of the pool, while the floating staircase cuts a clean entry into the water. From the terrace, the pool reads as a precise object in the garden rather than a separate technical insert.

rectangular skimmer pool as the architectural starting point

The pool coping sits neatly against the surrounding surface, so the edge is easy to read in the landscape. That waterline detail matters here: it gives the rectangular skimmer pool its calm, measured outline and keeps the eye on the length of the basin. In the close-up views, the steel-like finish catches the light without drawing attention away from the water itself. It is the kind of edge treatment that looks simple from a distance and reveals more when you get closer.

The plage stretches out as a shallow transition rather than a decorative add-on. Next to it, the floating staircase lifts off the basin in a way that keeps the entrance visually light. The combination works especially well in a narrow, linear pool layout, where every step and every line is visible at once. A powerful Binder Hydrostar 160 turbine is part of the installation, mentioned here as a technical element within the pool design rather than as a headline feature.

Wood, shade and a place to sit beside the water

A modern wooden pool terrace frames the pool on one side and gives the composition a warmer surface to work against the metal finish. The boards or deck-like surface run parallel to the water, which makes the full length of the pool feel even more pronounced. A pair of loungers sits close to the edge in the images, not tucked away but placed where the terrace meets the basin. That direct relationship between seating and water is what gives the outdoor space its rhythm.

Above part of the terrace, a covered lounge element acts as a sheltered pause in the layout. Dark side walls and a projecting canopy create a strong horizontal mass beside the pool, while the lighter terrace surface keeps the area from feeling closed in. The structure reads almost like a poolhouse wall from some angles, with a clear opening toward the water. Because it is set beside the pool rather than detached from it, the lounge zone becomes part of the same movement through the garden.

How the covered lounge meets the pool edge

Seen from the terrace, the covered zone sits just beyond the skimmer pool and its straight coping line. That proximity matters: the transition from deck to shelter happens without a change in scale, only in shadow and material. The dark framing around the lounge contrasts with the pale border wall in the planting area, and the result is easy to read in the long views across the site. Nothing is pushed forward for effect; the volume simply anchors the edge of the garden. That makes the rectangular skimmer pool part of the architectural character rather than a loose finish.

The planted border beside this zone uses height rather than density. A white retaining or finish wall sets the background, and the ornamental grasses rise in narrow clumps against it. Their movement softens the hard line of the wall without hiding it. In the photos, the grasses are not a backdrop but a strip of texture that breaks up the straight geometry of the terrace, pool and lounge structure. That small shift in movement makes the composition feel less rigid.

Clean borders and ornamental grasses around the finish wall

The garden lines stay disciplined throughout the project. Straight borders run along the white wall and continue the long, measured geometry of the pool. Instead of a busy planting scheme, the space relies on a few clear layers: wall, grasses, terrace and water. This keeps the sightlines open from the house-side perspective toward the lounge and the pool. The ornamental grasses do the quiet work of easing the transition between built surface and planting strip.

From the longer views, the garden reads as a sequence of planes. The dark volume of the covered lounge, the pale border wall, the wooden terrace and the reflective pool surface all sit in one frame, each with a distinct role. The rectangular skimmer pool remains the centre of attention, but the surrounding structure gives it context. The result is a garden where straight lines are not decorative; they shape the movement from sitting area to water to planting edge.

Details that hold the composition together

Several small elements keep the project visually consistent. The pool coping waterline detail reinforces the basin’s shape. The floating staircase gives the entrance a precise edge. The plage adds a shallow plane that breaks the full depth of the water. Even the dark frames and the lighter wall surfaces are part of the same order, because they repeat the same clear horizontal logic. Nothing feels added as filler; each piece has a visible place in the arrangement.

Seen from across the terrace, the project stays calm because the materials are allowed to speak for themselves. Metal, wood, plastered wall surfaces and planting each take a separate role, and the garden lines keep them from overlapping visually. The rectangular skimmer pool with wooden terrace works best in that clarity: a long basin, a sheltered lounge, and border planting that stays close to the wall. It is a composition built on straight edges, open water and a restrained plant layer.
