Michiel Wijnen studied Industrial Design Engineering at Delft University of Technology. Although trained as an industrial product designer, he has always had a deep-rooted affinity with interiors, furniture and lighting. Before opening his own studio in 2017, he helped develop Edwardvanvliet® into a leading name as a designer and Design Director, working for and with some of the world’s most prominent brands.
Studio Michiel Wijnen® is a multidisciplinary Amsterdam-based design studio with a focus on hospitality and high-end residential design. At the heart of our approach is dialogue with the client. By listening carefully and observing closely, we create a new perspective.
“An interior should fully support what you do, but it should also breathe who you are.”
The studio designs interiors for both corporate and private clients. We design and guide the entire process, from concept through to completion. Our space planning is defined by an architectural perspective, while our bespoke design reflects the mindset of a product designer. Project coordination and creative direction ensure our involvement right through to a satisfying handover. Where needed, this can be supplemented by an external project manager and/or construction supervisor, depending on the scale of the project or the client’s wishes. Alongside the design process, we build a team of specialists and potential contractors based on the underlying needs.
Previous projects by Studio Michiel Wijnen include Moooi presents ‘Through the eyes of…’ & The Museum of Extinct Animals (Milan Design Week, 2018), Danone Place Amsterdam global headquarters (9,000 m2, 2019), Restaurant Nazka Amsterdam (hotspot, 2019), Nazka screen (3D print, Aectual, 2022), high-end residential project Amsterdam-Zuid (2021), high-end residential project Amsterdam-Noord (2022), and Esh pitabar (hotspot, 2023).
