Bridge house: modern glass villa with self-sufficient home systems and a 30 m art gallery corridor

Wildflowers line the grass verge before the house, and the planting shifts from season to season. In summer, purple loosestrife and yellow loosestrife colour the edges, while the villa sits beyond a broad sweep of lawn and trees. The first impression is not of a closed object, but of a modern villa with glass facade and self-sufficient living concept set into a green rise. Long horizontal windows draw the eye across the interior, and the building reads as part of the terrain rather than something placed on top of it.

A house lifted into the land

The site was reworked so the house could sit as a mound-like dwelling. Topsoil was removed across the terrain, and the material was reused elsewhere on the property. That move changed the level of the ground and created a raised living zone with the basement held within the body of the hill. The result is visible in the way the volume meets the grass: one part opens toward the landscape, while another sinks into it. It gives the project a clear spatial logic, with the living areas elevated and the lower level tucked inside the earth.

The wider setting also matters. A park-like forecourt lies in front of the villa and is largely open to walkers, so the approach feels more like moving through a landscape than arriving at a private front drive. Paths, grass and scattered trees soften the edges around the building. This embedded in greenery setting is not decorative; it shapes how the house is read from outside and how the long glazed openings frame the view from within. The architecture stays low and horizontal, letting the land do much of the visual work.

Self-sufficient home systems worked into the house

The self-sufficient home concept runs through the technical fit-out as much as through the site plan. The villa is designed so the owner can disconnect the power without the house shutting down. Solar panels, a heating and cooling storage system, rainwater reuse, a septic tank, biocable and special glass are all part of the setup. Nothing is presented as a visible gadget; most of it sits behind walls, floors or roof surfaces. What you do notice is the calm that comes from a house planned to function on its own terms.

That technical layer is also tied to the interior climate. The heating and cooling storage system supports both floor and roof heating, while the glass is used to hold heat out more effectively and temper the summer sun. Rainwater reuse adds another loop to the house’s operation. Together these sustainable home systems give the project a practical edge that matches the site strategy. The house does not rely on one single solution. It uses several layers, each doing a different job in the background.

Materials that keep the lines clear

From the images, the villa’s material palette stays controlled: glass, concrete, large stone-look floor tiles and timber detailing. Black window frames sharpen the long window bands, while the pale floor surfaces pull daylight deeper into the rooms. In the evening images, warm interior light sits behind the glazing and traces the length of the volume. The structure feels precise without becoming stiff. Even the transition from lawn to wall is handled with restraint, so the building remains readable against the grass and trees.

The long corridor that doubles as an art gallery

Inside, the plan makes room for the family’s art collection with a 30 m corridor that connects the rooms and works as an art gallery corridor in house. It is not treated as leftover circulation. The length gives wall space for paintings, while the width and proportion allow the corridor to act as a continuous display route. Walking through it, the eye does not stop at one room door and then another; it moves along a sequence of openings, artworks and framed views. The corridor becomes a line of movement with a second life.

An open area near the stairs and lift extends that idea. It is positioned so sculptures or larger pieces can stand there without blocking the route. The vertical opening also pulls in light and gives the hall a sense of depth. From this point, the corridor offers panoramic views from inside, so the art and the landscape share the same frame. That combination gives the interior its strongest spatial gesture: a long gallery space that keeps connecting the house while also slowing the pace of movement through it.

Light, openings and the view across the room

The living spaces are shaped by large openings and wide panes that place the landscape at eye level. In the interior photos, the floor is laid in large stone-look tiles that carry the light across the room without visual noise. White walls keep the edges quiet, and the glass front sets up long sightlines toward the grass and trees. From the seating area, the view runs straight out, so the exterior is not a backdrop but part of the room’s layout. The glazing does most of the spatial editing.

Another image shows the same clarity in a different mood: evening light across the glass and dark window framing makes the façade read as a horizontal band in the landscape. The lower edge of the building glows softly, which helps the volume sit against the darkening lawn. Inside, the light remains even, with simple ceiling lines and no heavy ornament. That restraint allows the rooms to stay open to the view, and it keeps the focus on the way the house is stitched into the site.

Bathrooms and secondary spaces in the same language

The bathrooms continue the project’s material discipline. Dark floor tiles anchor the room, while white wall surfaces and black details keep the composition sharp. One bathroom pairs a double basin with a dark countertop and a glass shower screen, so the room reads as a series of clear planes rather than a crowded fit-out. The surfaces are easy to read, and the contrast between light wall, dark floor and transparent partition echoes the broader house strategy: define space with line, light and reflection instead of excess detail.

Even in these smaller rooms, the connection to the rest of the house remains visible. The glazing, the straight lines and the careful use of light keep the interior consistent from corridor to bathroom. The project never relies on one dramatic gesture alone. It uses the raised site, the technical systems and the long corridor to build a house that can stand on its own, while the views, the garden edges and the art route give the architecture a clear rhythm as you move through it.
