Elegance in a modern Amstelveen apartment: bulthaup b3

Bulthaup b3 apartment kitchen shapes the way the rooms are organized and described. The space is unmistakably generous in height, and the cabinetry is built to amplify that vertical flow. Tall custom kitchen cabinets in dark oak veneer pull the eye upward, while the island sits noticeably lower, keeping the middle of the room open and readable. Worktop and front surfaces share the same dark finish, so lines stay clean instead of fragmenting.

Bulthaup b3 apartment kitchen as a spatial starting point

What stands out first is the way the dark veneer behaves at scale. The tall fronts in the same tone as the work surfaces turn the kitchen into a backdrop rather than a set of separate pieces. Because the cabinetry extends high up along the room, it frames the ceiling instead of stopping at countertop height.

The contrast comes from the layout: straight runs of storage on one side, then the kitchen island carved out of the plan. The islands’ lower profile creates breathing room. Even with generous storage, the room doesn’t feel crowded because the design keeps the vertical elements concentrated where they make the most sense—at storage height.

Island lines, bar edges, and one continuous palette

Against the crisp island geometry, the choice to keep worktop and front color consistent is decisive. There’s no visual “break” between where you open a drawer and where you prepare food; the surface reads as one continuous plane. In the middle of the kitchen, the matching dark tone quiets reflections and helps the island settle into the room’s proportions.

The bar is treated as part of that same composition. Instead of switching to a different material or color for a more casual zone, the owners had the bar finished in the same dark veneer. It extends the cabinetry language into a social edge, so the transition from preparation to gathering is communicated by shape and placement—not by a new finish.

Where architecture meets circulation

This bulthaup b3 apartment kitchen also responds to how the room is meant to be walked through. The islands anchor the layout, and the gap between the main kitchen zone and the bar area keeps movement clear. You can approach the work area from the island side, then turn naturally toward the bar side without the plan getting visually tangled.

High ceilings leave visible space above the cabinets, and that detail matters. The storage doesn’t “feel” compressed because the cabinetry has enough vertical room to stand on its own. The dark finish prevents the tall volume from reading as bulky; it becomes a strong vertical line that supports the room’s overall height. Bulthaup b3 apartment kitchen remains connected to the layout, materials and daily use of the home.

Measured proportions over decoration

The project doesn’t rely on ornament. The kitchen’s character is built from repetition and restraint: tall storage, low islands, and a bar that follows the same dark veneer language. Different heights and placements create rhythm. Rather than adding decorative contrast, the design lets the architecture of the room do the work—straight edges, aligned fronts, and controlled transitions between surfaces.

Integrated Miele and Bora equipment

Inside this pared-back material scheme, the appliances are integrated, so the cabinets and island remain visually dominant. The equipment supports day-to-day cooking while staying aligned with the kitchen’s overall focus on form and proportion. With Miele and Bora appliances fitted into the layout, the work zone reads as a coherent station rather than a collection of stand-alone devices.

The placement also supports creative cooking routines. With a dedicated preparation surface on the island and cooking equipment positioned within the kitchen run, you can move through tasks without constantly crossing your own path. The result is a workspace that stays legible at a glance, even when multiple activities happen at once.

A place for shared routines

There’s a clear social logic in the way the island and bar relate. The bar gives a pause point within the kitchen—somewhere to sit or lean while food is being prepared nearby. Because the bar shares the same dark veneer as the rest of the cabinetry, the conversation zone doesn’t interrupt the visual order; it continues it.

In everyday use, that means the kitchen becomes more than a cooking area. Tall storage handles the daily organization, the island supports preparation and shared moments, and the bar provides an additional edge for gathering. With dark oak veneer kitchen surfaces, custom kitchen cabinets, and integrated Miele and Bora appliances, the bulthaup b3 apartment kitchen sets routines in a defined space—while keeping the surrounding architecture visible.
