Custom black kitchen in an open living space

The dark wood-look front panels set the tone at once. They run across the wall in a calm, continuous line, broken only by open niches and a small glazed cabinet that catches the light. This custom black kitchen is laid out as part of an open-plan living space, so the wall of storage does more than hold equipment; it also sets the rhythm of the room. The same material language returns in the matching TV unit on the opposite side, tying both pieces together without overplaying the gesture.

A kitchen wall built around storage, light and depth

The kitchen was made entirely to measure, which shows in the way the fronts, drawers and tall cabinets align. Nothing feels improvised. Behind the front faces, the internal layout keeps storage ordered, while the doors and drawers close quietly. That detail matters here, because the wall is long and visually dominant. Instead of reading as one large block, it shifts between solid panels, an open shelf and a generous niche with a ceramic back wall that picks up the reflection from the integrated lighting.

Those lit niches do more than brighten a corner. They break the dark surface and give the composition a sense of depth. The upper sections remain restrained, while the lower and central zones bring in a different pace through openings and inset details. The image set shows dark wood-look kitchen fronts with a vertical metal strip at the handle line, which adds a precise edge to the otherwise continuous surface. It is a quiet form of detailing, but it changes how the wall is read from across the room.

Open niches that shift from display to working light

The open niches are not treated like decorative afterthoughts. One section is fully finished with ceramic at the back, so the surface behind the shelf reflects both daylight and the softer artificial lighting. The lights can work as atmosphere in the evening, or as task lighting when the kitchen is in use. That flexibility is visible rather than advertised: the niche glows softly, while the rest of the wall stays darker and more solid. In an open-plan living space kitchen, that contrast keeps the composition from becoming flat.

The bespoke kitchen island as the centre of the room

The bespoke kitchen island shifts the focus from the wall to the middle of the room. It gathers the cooking zone and the sink into one surface, but it is also used as a place to sit and talk. In the photographs, the island reads as a firm, grounded volume with a stone-look top and dark base. The worktop carries a subtle pattern, close to ceramic or natural stone, and the edge detail stays crisp so the surface does not feel heavy. Seen from different angles, the island marks the route through the space as much as the kitchen wall does.

A ceramic worktop gives this island a practical surface without changing the overall mood of the room. The source material notes its resistance to heat and scratches, and that function is part of the way it is presented: the surface is clear, spare and unbroken, ready for pans, preparation and daily use. The sink zone sits neatly into the top, and the cooking area is integrated without visual noise. Because the island stands in an open room, those details are easy to read from a distance. They anchor the space.

Dark fronts, clean lines and a measured surface change

Across the whole project, the material story stays consistent. The black kitchen does not rely on high-gloss reflections or dramatic contrast. Instead, the front panels hold a dark wood-look grain that softens the mass of cabinetry. The visible joints are tidy, the lines are straight, and the transitions between panel, handle strip and worktop are handled with restraint. That precision matters in a room with so many functions. Cooking, storage and display all need their place, yet the eye still finds a clear order in the surfaces.

The lower cabinets and tall units keep the same visual logic, but the open sections interrupt the density just enough. A single glass-fronted cabinet adds a lighter note, while the illuminated recesses create pockets of depth in the wall. This is where the custom black kitchen feels especially resolved: it uses repetition, but not monotony. The front system stays consistent, while the open niches and ceramic-lined back wall give the layout a more layered reading.

Materials that carry through to the TV wall

At the far side of the open room, the custom TV unit repeats the same material concept. It sits low, with open compartments and shelving that hold music equipment, a large CD collection and art objects. The television is integrated into the wall in a way that keeps the unit from looking like an isolated piece of furniture. Instead, it reads as part of the same interior language as the kitchen: dark panels, clean edges and open storage used with purpose. Seen together, the two pieces make the room feel planned from one end to the other.

That matching TV unit matters because it extends the kitchen project into the living area without changing the material register. The same dark finish, the same structured openings and the same measured detailing appear again, but in a lower and more domestic scale. The open shelves are not filled for decoration in the images; they are there to hold objects that need a place in view. That gives the room a practical honesty. It also keeps the open-plan living space kitchen and the lounge side connected through material rather than through empty styling.

How the room works when viewed as one interior

What stands out most is the way the kitchen and the TV wall answer each other across the room. The tall kitchen volume has weight and height; the TV unit stays lower and more open. One side holds the appliances and storage, the other frames the screen and personal objects. Between them, the open floor area remains readable, so the room does not collapse into a single built-in block. Light from the niches, the ceiling spots and the glazed cabinet keeps the dark surfaces legible at different times of day.

The result is a project that feels precise without becoming rigid. The custom black kitchen gives the open living space its strongest line, while the bespoke kitchen island softens that line with seating and movement. The custom TV unit then repeats the same material story on the opposite side, turning the room into a coordinated interior rather than two separate settings. Because each element is fitted to its place, the surfaces, openings and storage zones all support the way the room is used.

Seen in detail, the project is built from small decisions: a niche with a ceramic back, a handle strip that runs vertically through a dark front, a worktop that reads as stone, a low TV cabinet with open bays. None of those parts demand attention on its own. Together, they define a custom black kitchen and adjoining living area that stays clear in plan, measured in material and calm in its lighting. That is where the strength of the project sits: in the way each surface continues into the next.
