Custom kitchen cabinetry with dark fronts and a built-in fireplace wall

Dark fronts set the tone before the room opens up to the rest of the plan. The custom kitchen cabinetry runs in long, flat lines, with wall panels and tall units that keep handles out of view and let the surfaces read as one continuous field. Against that darker mass, the white tile wall behind the cooking area catches the light and breaks the composition with a sharper note. The result is not about ornament. It is about how cabinetry, tile, and light meet across a shared interior.

Dark cabinet fronts that carry the kitchen wall

The kitchen is organised around a long run of dark custom wall cabinets and lower fronts that extend from the cooking zone toward the dining area. Their flat finish and narrow joints give the wall a measured rhythm, especially where the cabinet line rises to the ceiling. Above the cooktop, a chimney-style extractor marks the centre of the working zone. Nearby, recessed ceiling spotlights pick out the surfaces without flattening them, while the open sightline toward the table keeps the room from feeling closed in.

At the window, the layout shifts. A white sill, a visible tap, and the large opening bring a lighter surface into the darker kitchen frame. The work area sits close to the glass, so the countertop meets daylight before it meets the rest of the room. Pendant lighting hangs above this zone, adding a second layer of light below the ceiling spots. It is a small but important change in scale: the tall cabinet wall gives way to a lower working edge and a view outward.

White tile backsplash and large floor tiles

The white tile backsplash is laid in a regular grid, and that pattern sharpens the contrast with the dark joinery. It is simple, but it does real work in the room. The tiled surface reflects light back toward the cooking area and gives the wall behind the hob a clearer outline. Below, large format tile flooring continues the same restrained palette in a muted grey tone. The bigger tile size keeps the floor lines calm, so the room reads as one surface rather than a patchwork of parts.

Across the kitchen and into the living area, the floor supports the change in programme without drawing attention to itself. The long joints run under the cabinets, past the dining setting, and toward the fireplace wall, which makes the interior feel connected by more than colour alone. That continuity matters here because the joinery is doing the framing. The floor stays quiet so the darker cabinetry and the lighter wall finishes can hold the eye.

Integrated light, from ceiling spots to pendants

Light is used in layers rather than as one broad wash. Recessed ceiling spotlights are set into the white ceiling and fall directly over the cabinetry, the worktop, and the walking route between kitchen and living room. Their placement keeps the dark fronts legible, especially in the tall cabinet run. In the social area, a pendant with glass-like elements hangs lower and shifts the mood around the seating zone. It draws the gaze down from the ceiling and gives the room a second focal point beyond the kitchen line.

These fixtures are part of the architecture, not decoration added later. The spots follow the length of the room. The pendant marks a pause. Between them, the cabinetry and tile surfaces remain the main visual surfaces, and the lighting only sharpens their edges. The effect is clearest where the kitchen opens toward the living area: the ceiling stays visually light, while the dark joinery and the glass pendant hold their own weight.

The built-in fireplace wall as a second anchor

Further on, the built-in fireplace wall gives the interior another fixed point. The fire opening sits low within a custom wall, with a framed surround that reads as part of the joinery rather than as a separate insert. A dark vertical panel stands beside it, and the opening is kept narrow and horizontal, which reinforces the long lines already present in the kitchen. From one side of the room to the other, the same idea repeats: surfaces are wrapped, aligned, and kept flush.

The fireplace zone also shows how the project moves from working room to living room without a hard break. The opening is modest in height, but the wall around it extends upward, so the eye reads the full composition before it lands on the flame line. That proportion matters. It keeps the fireplace integrated with the cabinetry language instead of turning it into a decorative object on its own.

Custom kitchen cabinetry under a pitched ceiling

In one part of the living space, the custom kitchen cabinetry continues under a slanted ceiling and shifts into a more architectural wall unit. The fronts rise along the pitch, creating a stepped profile that follows the roofline instead of fighting it. This is where bespoke joinery is most visible: not in a single cupboard, but in the way the storage adapts to the shape of the room. The dark panels keep the triangular ceiling line from feeling abrupt, and the built-in fireplace zone sits within the same visual field.

That slanted wall treatment also brings the room into focus from a different angle. The cabinetry no longer reads only as storage beside the kitchen. It becomes a continuous wall element, measured against the ceiling slope, the fireplace opening, and the nearby light fittings. The composition is spare, but there is still plenty to read in it: panel joints, angle changes, and the way each surface meets the next.

Window recesses and wall details that slow the room down

Along the wall, a recessed window niche creates a small pause in the darker surfaces. The opening is edged cleanly, with a black border detail that sharpens the recess and makes the thickness of the wall visible. Nearby, a low plinth runs along the base, and the light grey floor plates continue beneath it. These are subtle details, but they prevent the wall from becoming a flat backdrop. Instead, the room gives away its depth through shadow, trim, and the set-back frame of the niche.

Another dark panelled wall repeats that precision with vertical divisions and a rectangular opening set into the surface. The geometry is simple, but the effect is exact. Storage, recesses, and openings are all treated as part of the same language, whether they appear in the kitchen, beside the fireplace wall, or under the pitched roof. That consistency is what holds the project together visually, from the white tile backsplash to the last dark panel at the edge of the room.

Seen as a whole, the interior is built from contrasts that stay controlled: dark custom kitchen cabinetry against a white tiled wall, large floor tiles under a continuous run of joinery, and a built-in fireplace wall that extends the same logic into the living area. The room changes function, but not its visual discipline. Panels, light, recesses, and openings keep the sequence moving, and each detail is set up to make the next one visible.
