A custom kitchen with smart built-in storage

The first thing you notice is the dark cabinet block running through the room. It starts by the hall, passes the kitchen, and keeps going into the living area as one continuous line of built-in storage. A tall volume hides the practical parts of the plan, while the lighter floor, white walls and glazed opening keep the room from feeling closed in. In the middle of that arrangement sits a custom kitchen with a generous island and an adjoining dining table, so cooking, serving and sitting down happen in one clear route.

A cabinetry wall that keeps going

The strongest move in this smart custom kitchen is the continuous cabinetry wall. Rather than scattering cupboards across separate zones, the storage is grouped into one block with a tight rhythm of panels, openings and integrated fronts. From one side, the stair cupboard appears to merge into appliance housing and then into storage in the living room. The result is easy to read in the photos: dark joinery against a pale shell, with the storage taking up the visual weight and the room around it staying open.

That long run also shapes how the kitchen is used. The built-in block takes care of the everyday clutter, while the central zone stays reserved for work and gathering. Open niches break up the closed fronts and give the cabinetry a measured pace. Because the same material language is carried through the whole assembly, the whole composition reads as one interior move rather than a series of separate cabinets. It is this controlled continuity that gives the project its clarity.

The island as working centre

The kitchen with island anchors the room. Its broad surface brings together cooking and washing, with enough depth to support the island’s visible mass. The worktop continues over the sides, so the block feels carved rather than simply topped. Around it, the dining table sits close enough to extend the use of the island without changing the pace of the room. Seen from the adjoining spaces, the island forms the main pause in the layout: a place where the eye stops before moving on to the wall units and the glazed opening.

Material contrast does much of the work here. The island sits in darker fronting, but the ceramic worktop lightens the top edge and reflects the daylight coming through the room. A wood-textured tabletop connects the dining side back to the cabinetry, so the table feels linked to the joinery rather than placed beside it by chance. The mix of cooking surface, dining surface and storage is compact, yet each part remains legible.

Details that stay visible from every angle

Several elements are designed to remain calm in the background while still shaping the room. The floating wall unit lifts storage away from the floor and gives the lower part of the wall some breathing space. In the photos, that suspended line keeps the room lighter than a full wall of base units would have done. A separate wall-mounted TV cabinet, also made in wood, repeats the same idea in the living room and carries the project language beyond the kitchen itself.

The front finishes sharpen the composition. One type has the look of graphite-toned oak, while the second front uses a leather-like surface for the island and the floating furniture. Together they create a difference you can see even in a still image: one surface has the grain and depth of wood, the other reads smoother and darker. The change is subtle enough to stay quiet, but clear enough to keep the block from becoming monotonous.

Material contrast in wood, ceramic and dark fronts

Across the room, the ceramic worktop is the hardest surface in the mix. It runs cleanly over the island and drops down the sides, which gives the block a wrapped edge and a more contained profile. Against that, the wood grain in the cabinetry brings a softer texture, especially where the panels catch the light from the glazed opening. The table surface sits between those two materials and acts as a bridge rather than a separate object. Nothing is overly decorative; the interest comes from the way the materials meet.

Light plays a big part in how the finishes read. The pale floorboards and white ceiling prevent the darker joinery from taking over the room, while the black-framed glazing opens the view toward the adjacent dining area. Ceiling spots and a long linear light add an even wash across the worktop and fronts, so the surfaces remain readable at different times of day. The images also show how the dark cabinetry contrasts with the lighter wall plane beside it, making the built-in volume easy to follow.

From kitchen to living room without a break

This custom kitchen does not stop at the cooking zone. The storage continues into the living room, where it becomes a low, wall-mounted unit. That move makes the interior feel planned as one composition, with the same panel language returning in a different function. It also explains why the project reads so strongly in photographs: the eye can trace the route from hall to kitchen to living area without losing the thread. The built-in block is not background furniture; it is the thing that ties the rooms together.

The openings in the cabinetry add rhythm to that route. Some are narrow and purely architectural, others are deeper and work as display recesses. A dark appliance tower sits within the larger assembly, and the integrated oven fronts keep the line of the wall orderly. Even where the unit changes task, it keeps the same outer face. That discipline is what gives the room its edited look, with each function tucked into the larger framework instead of standing apart.

A kitchen-dining area shaped by one long move

Because the dining table is attached to the main kitchen zone, the kitchen dining area feels like part of the same working surface. Chairs sit close to the island, so the room can shift from preparation to eating without a change in setting. The table’s wood tone softens the darker joinery, but it does so through material, not through decoration. Seen through the glass opening, the arrangement has a steady horizontal line that keeps the room calm even with several functions in play.

The project depends on proportion as much as on finish. The island is substantial enough to balance the long cabinetry wall, and the floating elements keep that weight from feeling static. Dark fronts, ceramic surfaces and the continuous block of storage create a clear interior language. What remains is a custom kitchen that reads as a single designed system: built-in storage, a working island, suspended wall pieces and a direct link to the adjacent living space.
