Natural garden with in-ground pool

The pool sits low in the garden, its dark water edged by a broad wooden terrace and dense planting that reaches right up to the boards. From the first view, the layout reads in straight lines: paths, borders, and terrace edges all run perpendicular to the house, giving the in-ground pool garden a firm rhythm without making it feel rigid. The result is a garden that moves between open sun and sheltered corners, with enough planting to soften the long lines.

Poolside living set into the planting

On the side and rear of the house, the garden is arranged for daily use. A large pool terrace leaves room for dining, lounging, swimming, and sunbathing, while the surrounding beds keep the water zone wrapped in green. White, pink, and purple flowers break through the planting in small accents, so the eye keeps moving between the darker water surface, the pale terrace boards, and the layered borders. The pool does not sit apart from the garden; it is folded into it.

The raised platform in composite adds a second level beside the pool, and the material’s clean edges are easy to read against the softer planting. A brushed stainless-steel outdoor shower stands nearby, placed as a practical detail rather than a decorative gesture. It picks up the light differently from the timber and foliage, which makes that corner of the pool terrace feel more defined. Around it, the planting stays generous, with leaves and stems closing in just enough to keep the space from feeling exposed.

Garden rooms shaped by slatted screens

Privacy comes from structure, not from closing the garden off. Black custom screens with slats divide the outdoor area into garden rooms, leaving sightlines open while marking out places to sit, pass through, or pause. Acacia posts add a rougher note beside the sharper black surfaces. The contrast is clear in the photos: straight timber lines, dark screen panels, and a run of planting that sits between them like a soft hinge. That mix keeps the garden legible from one end to the other.

Because the spaces are subdivided, each zone feels distinct without losing the bigger layout. The screens guide movement without blocking it, so the transition from terrace to lawn to pool remains easy to follow. This is where the rhythmic layout becomes more than a visual device. It organizes use. You can sit in one part of the garden while still reading the full depth of the plot, with the planted beds and timber elements acting as markers rather than barriers.

A front garden in many greens

At the front, the planting shifts to a quieter register. Different greens, leaf shapes, and heights build a measured entry that feels natural rather than clipped. The house, with its thatched roof and white walls, sits on the plot like a diamond, and the front garden mirrors that geometry with lines that run cleanly away from the building. In summer, the layered planting gives the entrance shade and depth, while the varied foliage keeps the approach from flattening into a single plane.

Seen from the path, the natural garden design depends on repetition and change at the same time. Tall stems rise behind lower planting, and the leaves in the foreground are not all the same size or texture. That variety gives the front garden its pace. It also prepares the eye for the more active zones at the side and rear, where the planting becomes fuller and the water comes into view.

Materials that hold the level changes

The garden’s differences in height are resolved with a clear set of materials. Schellevis steps connect the levels, and the raised planting beds are edged in coated steel. Those elements do not try to disappear. They draw a line under the changes in grade and keep the planting beds sharply set against the surrounding surfaces. In the images, the grey edges of the steps and borders stand out next to the timber boards and the green mass of the borders, which gives the transitions a practical clarity.

The timber terrace is not the only hard surface in play, but it is the one that carries the most use around the pool. Its boards run in long strips, aligning with the house and the straight paths through the garden. That repetition is what makes the pool terrace feel settled in the plot. It also creates a clear edge for loungers, where the furniture can sit without interrupting the movement from terrace to water.

Planting kept mature, then layered with new growth

What was already valuable in the garden was kept: ball catalpas, roof-trained plane trees, and an old pear tree remain part of the scene. Those mature forms give the planting structure and a sense of scale, especially beside the newer, fuller beds. The new planting has volume and variation, with different leaf sizes and textures building depth along the borders. From one season to the next, the view changes as flowering shifts and the canopy lightens or thickens.

The purple accents seen in the planting images do a lot of work here. They tie the long borders together and give the garden a color thread that appears and disappears as you move around the house. Set against the larger green masses, those flowering stems keep the beds from becoming flat. They also reinforce the sense of a lush planting scheme that is meant to be read in layers, not as one broad field.

From the house to the water

Several of the photos show the transition between the house and the outdoor space very clearly: white walls, dark window frames, and the thatched roof above a straight run of paving or timber. The route to the pool stays simple, but the edges around it are carefully handled. Grass presses close to the timber in places, while the planted beds take over in others. That shift from hard surface to soft edge is what keeps the garden from feeling overdrawn. It lets the water, the terrace, and the planting stay in the same frame.

The strongest view is the one where the pool, terrace, and planting all sit together in one line. The water remains calm and low, the deck stretches wide, and the borders rise behind it with enough density to make the outdoor room feel enclosed by greenery. This is an in-ground pool garden that relies on measured geometry and abundant planting, not on gesture. Each part is visible in the others: the screens shape the rooms, the terrace sets the edge, and the planting keeps pulling the eye forward.

A rhythm that stays readable

What makes the garden memorable is the way its elements keep repeating with small shifts in scale. Straight lines cut across the plot, but the planting interrupts them just enough to prevent sameness. The black slatted screens, the timber posts, the grey steps, and the raised beds all appear in sequence, each one answering the next. That sequence is what gives the whole garden its cadence. It is a place where water, shade, and shelter are arranged as part of one clear outdoor structure.

The final impression is not about excess, but about control held lightly. The pool is sunk into the garden rather than placed on top of it. The terrace is broad enough for daily use. The planting is generous enough to change with the season. And the rooms outside remain open enough to read from one to the next. Together, those parts make the pool terrace and surrounding garden feel inhabited from the start, with each view framed by leaves, timber, stone, and water.
