Interior design with a lighting plan, built-in details, and a spacious living kitchen

The first thing you notice is the route: a paved line runs through the house, starting at the street and continuing past the front door and steel entrance doors toward the garden. That clear axis shaped more than circulation. It set the tone for the interior design, which was developed early in the process and led to floor plan changes that made the house respond more directly to daily use. A custom light plan and the styling were part of that same effort, so the rooms read as one sequence rather than separate stops.

A paved path through the house

The clinker axis was laid in coordination with the garden designer, and that collaboration is visible in the way the house opens up. The line cuts straight through the interior, linking the street side to the view toward the garden. Steel doors form a firm threshold, while the large opening beyond them gives the living room a direct indoor outdoor view. It is a simple move, but it gives the plan a strong orientation and makes the transition from entry to garden feel deliberate, not accidental.

Inside, the materials stay restrained. White plastered walls, dark steel and warm wood sit close together without competing for attention. The route through the house keeps returning to the same idea: movement is readable, and each opening tells you where to go next. Because the path was aligned so carefully, the interior can hold both openness and structure. You see the garden from deep inside the house, yet the circulation never feels vague. The paved path through the house gives the plan a spine.

A larger living kitchen by shifting the kitchen back

Moving the kitchen slightly backward created a more generous living kitchen, and that shift changes the feel of the main floor. The room now has space to breathe around the table and along the edges of the cabinetry. The kitchen itself is composed with wooden fronts and a black built-in kitchen zone, so the darker appliances sit quietly within the larger composition. The result is not a showpiece island or a crowded layout, but a room that gives its proportions room to register.

The wood and black interior works best where the surfaces meet. Horizontal cabinet lines, integrated handles and the dark appliance wall keep the kitchen visually calm, while the timber softens the amount of black. A custom light plan brings focus to the table and the work area without flooding the whole room with the same brightness. That distinction matters in a house where sightlines run far. From the kitchen you still sense the route to the garden, and the indoor outdoor view stays present even when the room is in use.

Built-in cabinetry that keeps the room quiet

Built-in cabinetry appears throughout the interior as a way to control the edges of the spaces. The storage sits flush, so walls can stay clean and furniture does not interrupt the lines of the plan. In the living areas this helps the large windows do their work. In the kitchen it allows the wooden fronts and black appliances to read as one set of volumes rather than a collection of separate elements. The cabinetry does not ask for attention, but it shapes how the rooms feel when you move through them.

Light, furniture and the way the rooms read at night

Lighting is used as a design layer, not an afterthought. Hanging fixtures hover above the seating and dining areas, and the custom light plan places emphasis where the house needs it most. In the living room, the lamps pick up the edges of the sofa arrangement and the large opening to the outside. In the evening, the glazing still carries the view, but the room becomes more compact around the lit areas. That shift makes the interior easier to read and gives the long sightlines a second rhythm after dark.

Styling was handled as part of the same process, which is why the rooms avoid clutter even when they are furnished. Textiles soften the seating, but the structure remains visible: curtains frame the windows, the fireplace wall sits as a solid plane, and the armatures of light trace the ceiling. Nothing is overworked. The house depends on proportion, not decoration, and that is where the early interior design changes matter most. They gave the plan a clearer order before the furniture and lighting were placed.

Upper-floor changes that make the rooms connect better

Upstairs, the adjustments are practical but they also affect the spatial sequence. A walk-in shower was introduced, a separate toilet was added, and the master bedroom now connects directly to the bathroom. Those changes reduce unnecessary steps and make the upper floor feel more resolved. The bedroom itself benefits from a skylight, which pulls daylight into the room and breaks up the slope above the bed. Seen in the photos, the opening in the roof gives the room a lifted center without changing its calm scale.

The bathroom continues that measured approach. A wood vanity with double basins anchors the room, and the bathtub sits under the window so the light falls across the rim and the surrounding surfaces. The wood vanity adds texture against the lighter walls, while the basin arrangement keeps the counter clear. The direct link from the master bedroom to the bathroom means the two rooms function as a pair. There is no long corridor between them, just a direct move from sleeping space to washing space.

Materials that stay readable in close-up

What stands out in the bedroom and bathroom is not decoration but clarity of parts. The skylight bedroom uses the roofline as a source of daylight, while the bathroom relies on a straightforward arrangement of basin, storage and bath. Wood, stone-like surfaces and black fittings appear in measured quantities. The contrast is quiet, but it gives each room a clear edge. Even the small details, such as the straight lines of the vanity or the way the tub sits against the wall, help the plan feel organized.

That same reading continues in the entrance. The steel entrance doors are not treated as a gesture; they are part of the sequence that carries you from street to garden. The floor underfoot and the white walls around the door set up a firm frame for that movement. Once inside, the house keeps returning to the same relationship between line and opening. The clinker route, the larger living kitchen, the daylight in the bedroom and the bathroom connection all follow from that first spatial decision to give the house a visible axis.

The project is strongest where those decisions overlap. Floor plan changes, a custom light plan and the interior styling were all developed early enough to influence the way the house works day to day. That is why the rooms feel settled without looking fixed. The indoor outdoor view remains open, the built-in cabinetry keeps the edges tidy, and the path through the house still reads from front door to garden. It is a home renovation in the broad sense, but the real story is how the interior was shaped before the finishes went in.
