Kitchen with natural materials
Inside view in Rotterdam
Living in the middle of the city in an oasis of tranquility impossible? Nothing could be further from the truth. That’s because you can in the old Fenix Loodsen in Rotterdam. In recent years, they have been transformed into a unique habitat. The old details have been preserved. Such a unique property calls for a unique kitchen created from a customized approach. Velthuizen Keukens Architectuur was immediately enthusiastic.
During the initial meeting between kitchen designer Wilbrand and the residents, it became immediately clear that they wanted to create a natural transition from the entryway to the kitchen and the kitchen to the living room. That some walls had to give way in order to do so was no problem for them. A case of the end justifies the means. We also agreed to create the bedroom suite in the same style. Wilbrand was able to start working on a concept plan based on the construction drawing immediately after the first meeting.
Upon entering the home, visitors are led into the kitchen thanks to a long light bar integrated into the ceiling. But while walking to the kitchen, there is also plenty to please the eye. The tall cabinetry that continues into the kitchen has a unique bronze color. Yet it looks different in the hall than in the kitchen thanks to the beautiful texture of the iron-on lacquer. The kitchen’s marble countertop that was placed in line with the cabinetry could not have matched the cabinets better. This one is of brown marble with a naturally beautiful, unique pattern. Because the fronts are sleek, the marble comes out well. The light, natural wood accents and light gray cast floor make the showpieces stand out.
