L-shaped garden room with thatched roof and wellness with indoor pool and sauna

The thatched roof sets the tone before the rooms even begin. Its broad line follows the L-shaped garden room, where oak construction, dark frames and large openings create a clear contrast between heavy material and open glass. From the outside, the volume reads as one long gesture with a turn in it: lounge at the front, wellness at the rear, and a practical garage zone attached to the side. The roof edge softens the outline, while the black aluminium folding doors keep the openings sharp.

From folded glass to a sheltered lounge

The entrance side is built around black aluminium folding doors that can close off the lounge or open it wide to the terrace. That move changes the room at once. One moment the seating area feels enclosed beneath the oak structure and exposed timber beams; the next, it connects directly to the paving outside. A stove sits near the lounge, with a visible flue rising through the room. It gives the space a fixed centre and marks the seating area without needing a wall.

Inside, the palette stays restrained. White walls sit against timber, and the ceiling exposes its structure instead of hiding it. The result is a room that relies on material and proportion rather than decoration. The thatched roof outbuilding works here as a shelter for daily use, but the detail keeps shifting between inside and outside. The folding doors, the stove, and the open beam ceiling all push the eye toward the length of the room and then back out to the terrace.

A lounge anchored by fire and timber

The outbuilding lounge with fireplace is not tucked away; it is part of the first space you enter. That makes the stove more than a heat source. It becomes the visual anchor in a room where the floor finishes, timber ceiling and glazed openings already do a lot of the work. The black metal of the stove repeats the colour of the door frames, so the room feels connected without relying on ornament. Even the route through the room is legible: in, past the seating, toward the kitchen and then deeper into the plan.

An oak kitchen block beside a full-length table

Just beyond the lounge sits a modest outdoor kitchen block in oak, paired with a generous table. The arrangement is simple and effective. Wood fronts, a dark worktop and a black tap show up clearly in the images, while the table gives the room a reason to hold people for longer than a quick stop. This is where the building shifts from sitting room to dining room, with the materials staying calm enough for both uses. The open timber beams continue overhead, so the kitchen does not feel detached from the rest of the plan.

The long table sits in the middle of that transition, close to the glazing and close to the kitchen block. It is a straightforward setup, but the proportions matter. The table is large enough to read as a gathering point, yet the room around it remains clear. The black aluminium folding doors keep the edge of the room visually light, and the view through the glass gives the dining zone more depth than its footprint suggests. The oak kitchen block and the table hold the middle of the building together.

Material contrast without extra noise

The combination of oak, dark worktop and black hardware keeps the kitchen detail grounded. Nothing tries to dominate. Instead, the materials repeat what the rest of the building already says: timber for warmth and structure, black metal for line and edge, light surfaces for reflection. It is a quiet palette, but it works hard. The kitchen block is compact, yet the room around it feels larger because the openings stay wide and the ceiling structure stays visible. That is what gives the kitchen zone its presence.

Wellness at the rear, where light reaches the water

Behind the living rooms, the plan changes pace. The rear volume holds the indoor pool wellness room, with a sauna and a toilet set into the same part of the building. The shift is immediate. Glass, tile and pale wall surfaces replace the more social materials from the front. Natural light enters through the roof opening and the glazing, and it lands across the pool surface and the surrounding finishes. The room feels more enclosed, but not dark. The light from above softens the edges of the wellness space.

The sauna and indoor pool sit close together, which keeps the wellness area compact and direct. There is no unnecessary passage. The arrangement reads as a sequence of practical elements: pool, sauna, toilet. In the images, the indoor pool is framed by black metal glazing and a ceiling with visible structure, while the room’s finishes remain understated. A round illuminated mirror and an integrated washbasin cabinet appear in the wellness zone as well, adding a clear domestic note to a room that is otherwise built around water and heat.

A round illuminated mirror in a pale interior

The round illuminated mirror is one of the clearest details in the rear zone. It sits above a built-in basin unit and catches the eye because the rest of the room stays measured. The mirror’s circular light cuts through the square geometry of the walls and glazing. Nearby, the basin cabinet and wall finishes stay light, which lets the dark frame of the mirror stand out. It is a small but telling detail: the room is not only about swimming and sauna use, but also about the daily routines that sit around them.

A garage for two cars beside the living volume

At the practical end of the building, the project includes a garage for two cars. It is treated as part of the same composition rather than as an afterthought. Large openings and substantial doors mark this side of the outbuilding, and the structure remains consistent with the rest of the volume. The garage space adds storage and parking without interrupting the L-shaped plan. From the outside, it keeps the same roof line and material language, so the functional side still belongs to the whole.

That matters in a building like this. The lounge, dining zone, wellness room and garage each serve a different purpose, but the oak construction and thatched roof keep them visually connected. The plan turns once, then settles into separate rooms that can be opened or closed as needed. Black aluminium folding doors, exposed timber beams and the indoor pool wellness room give the project its strongest moments, while the garage for two cars completes the practical brief without changing the character of the main spaces.

What stays with you is the sequence: a sheltered lounge, a dining area built around timber and glass, a rear wellness room with pool and sauna, and a side volume for parking. The building uses clear moves rather than decorative gestures. The thatched roof outbuilding reads as one structure, but each zone has its own use, own light and own material emphasis. That is where the project gets its strength: in the way the rooms are separated, then held together by the same roof and frame.
