Refined interior and exterior of a historic villa

The luxury villa is immediately visible in the way the project is framed. Light filters through tall windows, drawing attention to the textures of marble and polished teak that shape this late 19th-century villa’s rooms. The refined balance between historical architecture and contemporary accents offers a quiet dialogue between eras, visible in the carefully preserved mouldings and subtly modern furnishings.

luxury villa as the architectural starting point

Every corner of the villa holds traces of its past: high ceilings with moulded cornices frame spacious living areas, where original woodwork meets soft fabric curtains. This dialogue anchors the home in its history while introducing contemporary flows through clean lines and natural finishes. The original stonework and plaster combine with fresh textures like smooth ceramics, creating spaces that feel both grounded and current.

Living Spaces Bathed in Natural Light

Multiple large windows overlook the surrounding greenery, casting a subtle play of light and shadow across the richly grained teak floors. The generous light heightens the textures of woven fabrics and wall coverings, emphasizing the contrast between classic architectural frames and modern, restrained furnishings. The calm palette centers around natural hues, enhancing the interplay between light and material.

Kitchen and Dining: An Open Connection to Nature

The large kitchen extends with an open dining area, offering uninterrupted views of the garden. Surfaces of polished stone and wood complement the organic color scheme, while the textured ceramic tiles add subtle relief near workspaces. Overhead, finely tuned lighting fixtures highlight the smooth surfaces and provide warmth in the evenings, reinforcing a welcoming scene without overwhelming the senses.

Intimate Corners: A Blend of Texture and Form

In the more private rooms, attention turns to detail—the contrast between a softly tiled bathroom wall and the warm grain of wood panels on the cabinetry demonstrates a deliberate selection of materials. Lighting accents, like directed wall lamps, sculpt the space, emphasizing form over ornament and fostering a tranquil environment.

Lighting Design that Shapes Ambiance

Across the villa, lighting is not just functional but a design element that enhances architectural features. Carefully placed fixtures create moments of focus on textured surfaces or architectural detailing, such as a row of wall lamps that illuminate the wood paneling, or recessed ceiling lights that outline the tall room proportions. The intent is to maintain continuity between historic and contemporary elements through subtle illumination. That makes the luxury villa part of the architectural character rather than a loose finish.

Materials Grounding the Design in Reality

The interior design emphasizes materials sourced for their tactile and visual qualities rather than decoration alone. Marble surfaces in select areas reflect light and bring cool contrast to warmer woods like teak. Ceramic details add surface variation and withstand use in wet zones, supporting both the villa’s historic character and modern standards of comfort.

Wellness and Activity Spaces with Thoughtful Sculpting

The fitness and wellness areas retain the villa’s architectural language through exposed wooden ceiling beams and clean-lined equipment placement. Natural daylight filters into these spaces, layered with warm artificial light, ensuring functional zones that retain a residential quality rather than becoming purely utilitarian.

Outward transitions emphasize visual connections to external garden spaces and the rooftop terrace. Natural colors extend outdoors, where wooden decks and subtle lighting define seating areas, inviting use at varying times of day. These areas respect the villa’s original setting while offering contemporary lifestyle options.

Visual Layers in Interior and Exterior Photography

The project’s extensive interior and exterior photography captures these juxtapositions—a balance of shadow and light, texture and smoothness, old and new. Images showcase the way natural finishes articulate surfaces and how lighting design creates spatial depth and atmosphere across the villa’s diverse rooms.

Working with Skilled Craftsmanship

The finishes and bespoke furniture pieces reflect collaboration with specialists who understand both traditional techniques and present-day demands. Custom fittings and furniture hardware add subtle detailing that supports the overall design ethos without disrupting the flow or character of the villa. That makes the luxury villa part of the architectural character rather than a loose finish.
