Heart for Gardens

Modern garden and interior in one timeless concept

A set of level changes and repeated planting lines gives this modern luxury garden its first clear gesture: the house sits higher than the public space around it, so the front approach reads almost like a podium. That lift changes how the front and back yard are experienced. It brings the building forward visually and leaves more room for privacy. The same logic runs through the entire plot, where paving, water, greenery and the interior roof structure keep referring back to one another.

Formal lines at the front, made to work with the house

The front yard follows stricter monument-like rules, but the drawing is not rigid. A water feature near the main entrance recalls the historic setting mentioned in the brief, while the new treatment keeps the edges crisp and the surfaces calm. Repeated materials and planting connect the two homes that make up the site. Black galvanized levels sit against a white raised volume behind them, with separate entrances and view lines marking each home. The contrast is simple: black, white and green.

Straight paving, low borders and a field of ornamental grasses give the front and backyard design a steady rhythm. Instead of one large gesture, the landscape works through repetition: the same textures return in the planting, in the paving joints and in the way the two homes are read from the street. That is what makes the front garden do more than frame the entrance. It links the two addresses without flattening their individual character. The result is legible from the first step onto the site.

Two homes, one garden language

The shared garden is built around a few clear signals. The planting is held in a broad field of grasses, and the material palette returns across both sides of the plot. Black metal edging meets white masonry, while the green planting acts as the element that joins everything together. Each house keeps its own entrance and its own level, but the visual language is shared. From one side to the other, the composition depends on distance, thresholds and the way the views are cut.

A backyard that opens the brief up completely

Behind the house, the tone changes. The back garden was allowed to follow the owners’ wishes more freely, and the setting moves toward a Mediterranean reading with stone-clad walls, white plastered surfaces and a covered lounge terrace. In the photos, the exterior lines stay direct, but the materials soften them: pale wall finishes, darker brickwork and broad grey paving create a grounded base for the seating area. A small football field was also part of the brief, giving the garden a more practical edge.

The covered lounge terrace is the main outdoor room. Its ceiling line is kept tight, with integrated spotlights and a clean edge that pulls attention to the furniture below. The custom seating sits on large grey slabs, and a timber accent wall closes one side of the terrace. At night, the lighting reads as a line rather than decoration. During the day, the terrace acts as a sheltered pause between the house and the rest of the garden, with the paving running straight through the space.

Stone, plaster and a direct route to outdoor living

From the back façade, the mix of brick and wood exterior details becomes easier to read. The wall finishes switch between Mediterranean natural stone and white plaster, and the darker brickwork frames the openings. That contrast is repeated in the garden level: stone, plaster and paving all sit in clear bands. Where the front yard is formal, the back yard is looser in expression, but the surfaces still remain measured. The path of the eye stays level, from the terrace to the lawn and back to the wall surfaces.

Several images show how the back garden holds different uses without breaking up into separate fragments. There is a rectangular pool enclosed by a fence, a strip of grass beside gravel, and a run of straight paving that links the sitting areas. The planting beds stay low and orderly, so the architecture keeps its outline. Even the small details, such as the junction between gravel and slab or the edge of the lawn against the terrace, are handled with the same calm repetition seen at the front.

Inside, the roof height becomes part of the plan

The interior ties the project together rather than standing apart from it. From the kitchen, living room and void, the eye rises into a tall monumental roof construction with exposed timber beams. That open interior with void gives the rooms a vertical direction that mirrors the higher garden level outside. A steel balustrade threads through the stair, while white walls keep the volume clear. The scale is visible before any furnishing does its work: the structure itself sets the room.

Black pendant lights hang in a line above the dining area, and their dark shape picks up the metal accents seen outdoors. The stair is open, the sightlines stay long, and the white surfaces allow the timber structure to remain visible. In one view, the rounded window openings and arched framing soften the geometry, but they never dominate it. The room keeps moving around the void, through the stair, and up toward the roof where the beams and light fittings define the height.

Greenery carried indoors

A moss wall interior detail gives the living spaces a direct link to the garden. It appears beside the dining area, while tall palms in large pots bring a vertical plant form into the roof volume. This is where the project becomes more than a sequence of rooms and terraces. The greenery is not added as decoration after the fact; it is part of the spatial reading. Seen from the kitchen and living room, the plants sit against the tall structure and make the height easier to understand.

That same idea of continuity runs through the whole project. The front and backyard design starts with a measured entrance court, moves through a more relaxed outdoor living zone and ends in a bright interior with a visible roof frame. Materials keep returning in different scales: stone in the garden walls, plaster on the exterior surfaces, timber in the terrace and roof, metal in the stair and edging. Nothing is isolated. Each part references the next, so the route through the plot remains clear from street to terrace to void.

What stays with you is the way the site handles contrast without noise. The house stands above the street, the front garden keeps its formal order, and the rear space opens into a looser sequence of terrace, lawn and covered seating. Inside, the roof height and greenery extend that same logic upward. The result is a modern luxury garden and interior concept that depends less on ornament than on proportion, repeated lines and the careful placement of every surface in view.
