Stone continues that discipline at the water’s edge. The lounge zone, set beside the wooden terrace, sits at a depth of 60 cm and opens the pond to a lower, seated level. A matching flight of steps follows it, all made from Belgian bluestone. The same material is used for the stepping stones that cross from the marsh planting toward the swimming area, so the movement through the pond feels measured and direct.

Clean transitions instead of heavy borders

What stands out most is how little structure interrupts the water. The border remains light, with gravel tracing the perimeter and stones punctuating the route across the pond. In the photographs, the stepping stones appear almost to float above the white gravel, while the reflective surface gathers the sky and the house in long horizontal bands. It is a swimming pond, but the layout gives equal weight to the paths around it.

The lounge ledge changes the use of the water without changing its character. At 60 cm deep, it creates a place to sit close to the surface and near the timber terrace, while the adjacent steps provide the more direct entry into the pond. Because both elements are cut in the same bluestone, the transition from terrace to water stays legible. Nothing feels added later. Stone, water and reflection

Along one side, larger natural stones and a shallow plant zone break the rigidity of the edge.
