Open plan kitchen with marble island

The marble kitchen island sits at the center of the room, its pale veining cutting across the surface while the wood floor runs around it in long, quiet lines. From this point, the open plan kitchen reads as two clear zones: one for cooking and washing, one for cooling and storage. The layout is calm in the practical sense, with each surface placed where the eye expects it.

Marble pulls the room together

The island is the first thing you notice. Its broad top carries an integrated sink zone on one side, while the rest of the slab stays open for prep. The edge is cut cleanly, and the marble’s white pattern softens the presence of the stainless steel fronts below. It is a kitchen island that works as a visual pause as much as a work surface, holding the room without blocking it.

Seen from the wider open space, the marble kitchen island sets the tone for everything around it. The floorboards lead toward it, the wall units stop short of it, and the light from the ceiling accents lands on its surface before it reaches the darker appliance wall. That contrast between stone, metal, and wood gives the room its order.

Stainless steel defines the working wall

Along one side, a stainless steel appliance wall gathers the cooking equipment into a single strip. The cooktop and oven sit within the same field of metal, with the reflective surface giving the zone a different presence from the stone island. Near it, the cooling columns and storage niches are set back into a more enclosed run of cabinetry, so the eye moves from active cooking to quieter storage without a hard break.

Horizontal lamella cabinet fronts and slatted screening appear above parts of this wall, breaking up the plain surfaces and giving the upper zone a more measured rhythm. The detail is subtle, but it matters. It keeps the stainless steel open kitchen from becoming only about equipment. Instead, the wall is treated as part of the room’s composition, with ventilation, screening, and cabinet lines folded into one reading.

Cook and cool zones stay visually separate

The arrangement makes the sequence easy to read. Cooking sits beside the appliance wall, while the cooling side is held in a separate column with recessed niches and built-in light. That division is visible from across the room. The eye does not have to search for the functions; they are placed in clear bands, with the marble kitchen island acting as the point between them.

This zoning also keeps the open plan kitchen from feeling spread out. The island is close enough to the cooking wall to connect the actions, yet independent enough to remain its own surface. It becomes the place where the room gathers its materials: marble above, stainless steel around it, and wood underfoot.

A sink zone set into the stone

The integrated sink zone is built into the marble rather than added on top of it. A stainless steel sink and mixer tap sit in the worktop, and the fittings read as part of the same working plane. Because the basin is placed within the island, the island can handle both preparation and washing without changing the language of the room. The stone stays continuous around it, which keeps the surface clear and legible.

From close range, the sink area shows the project’s attention to practical detail. The double controls at the tap, the flush edges around the basin, and the clean join between marble and metal all keep the worktop visually controlled. It is a quiet gesture, but it gives the whole kitchen island its use value.

Upper cabinetry stays restrained

The wall cabinets above the cooler and cooking zones are kept tight and plain, so the lower materials remain visible. Their fronts do not compete with the island or the appliance wall. Instead, they form a controlled backdrop that lets the more tactile parts of the room stand out: the veining in the marble, the sheen of the stainless steel, and the grain of the wood flooring below.

That restraint is important in an open kitchen. There is enough visual information already in the floor, the stone, and the metal. By holding the upper storage back, the room avoids visual clutter and keeps the main lines sharp. The result is a kitchen that reads clearly from several angles, not only from the working side.

Light lands on stone and metal

Ceiling accents and recessed lighting keep the surfaces legible after dark. The light catches the top of the island, slips across the appliance wall, and picks out the niches inside the cooling column. Those small highlights help separate one zone from another. They also reveal how much of the room depends on edge, reflection, and shadow rather than decoration.

In the wider view, the kitchen feels measured rather than busy. The marble kitchen island remains the clearest element in the space, but it is not isolated. It is tied to the stainless steel appliance wall, the integrated sink zone, and the storage runs that sit just behind them. The wood floor keeps the room grounded, while the lamella cabinet fronts and screened upper zones stop the composition from becoming flat.

What stays with you is the order of the room. The open plan kitchen uses a few strong materials and places them where they can do distinct work: marble for the central island, stainless steel for the cooking wall, and wood for the base plane. Nothing here feels overdrawn. The details remain visible, the functions are easy to read, and the kitchen island holds the center without turning the room into a showcase for itself.
