After studying design and architecture, René van der Leest and Sigrid van Kleef founded Studio Ruim. The creative duo has already completed a number of successful projects. Studio Ruim guides each project with great dedication, from concept to completion and from lighting plan to interior design. The duo’s best-known project is located on Herengracht in Amsterdam.

Design style
Modern, elegant, light and spacious are words that describe the duo’s design style. Studio Ruim always uses natural materials such as wood, steel, glass and stone, because these materials suit the natural atmosphere of an old listed building. The aim is always to create a balance between the building’s new and original features. Lighting design also receives a great deal of attention. Natural daylight and artificial light together can highlight the architecture’s strongest qualities.
