Green garden with veranda and outdoor kitchen

A wide lawn now sits at the centre of the garden, with planting held low along the edges and a line of evergreen trees tightening the view at the back. The result is open enough for children to run across, yet enclosed enough to feel sheltered from the surroundings. The green garden with veranda and outdoor kitchen starts with that simple split: a clear stretch of grass, then a series of planted borders, wood, light and a place to stay outside after dark.

A lawn that keeps the middle of the garden open

The spacious lawn garden design gives the plot its shape. Instead of breaking the surface into many small corners, the open grass plane allows the eye to travel from the terrace to the rear boundary in one line. Along the sides, layered garden borders soften the edges without closing them off. Their height changes are modest, which keeps the garden readable and lets the lawn stay dominant. That choice also leaves room around the house for movement, play and a direct route toward the veranda.

At the back, a green strip already gave the garden a more enclosed character, and the new layout works with that condition rather than against it. Evergreen planting strengthens the sense of depth all year round. It also frames the lawn with a darker edge, so the grass reads brighter in daylight. Large planters and longer planting beds punctuate the perimeter, but they never interrupt the central open field. The garden feels measured, with each surface doing a clear job.

The covered veranda outdoor kitchen sits in the far corner

Instead of placing the living area near the centre, the covered veranda outdoor kitchen has been set in the outer corner of the garden. That move leaves the middle open and gives the veranda its own address. Under the roof, the outdoor kitchen sits beside the seating area, with wood visible in the posts, the pergola parts and the built-in elements. The arrangement is practical without looking crowded. It creates a place where adults can stay outside longer, while the lawn remains free for daytime use.

The veranda also changes how the garden is used after sunset. Garden lighting in the evening traces the edges of the terrace and picks out the planting, so the corner remains active even when the rest of the plot is dark. Light falls across the paving and bounces off the larger planters, which makes the seating area easy to read from the house. The effect is quiet rather than dramatic. A few fixed points of light are enough to pull the veranda forward.

Wooden pergola seating area with clear lines

One of the strongest visual markers is the wooden pergola seating area. Its vertical members and overhead parts draw a frame around the terrace, giving the corner more presence than a simple paved platform would have done. The wood also breaks up the hard surfaces of stone and wall finishes. In the images, the pergola works almost like a room boundary outdoors, setting the seating zone apart while still leaving it open to the garden. The structure is straightforward and easy to read from several angles.

That same clarity appears in the material mix. Terrace slabs sit against the lawn, and the edge between them is kept clean. Large wooden planters add weight near the sitting area, while the planting beyond them stays lower and softer. The contrast is not about ornament; it is about order. The pergola, the paving and the grass each keep their own territory, which makes the whole garden easier to use and less fragmented in appearance.

Layered borders that keep the edges alive

The layered garden borders do a lot of quiet work. Close to the terrace, they carry larger forms such as the wooden planters. Further out, the beds settle into repeated green masses that back up the lawn and guide the eye toward the rear boundary. Nothing here is crowded. The planting is arranged in bands, with enough space between materials for the lawn and paving to remain legible. That layering also helps the garden hold its shape once evening light starts to flatten the scene.

Because the garden had been strongly dated before the redesign, the new layout gains force from restraint. There are few gestures, but each one is deliberate: a long grass plane, a planted edge, a sheltered corner for cooking and sitting. The outdoor kitchen does not dominate the view from the house. Instead, it sits where it can be used without taking over the rest of the plot. That is what allows the garden to feel open in one direction and more contained in another.

Details that catch the eye without crowding the plot

Large planters and pergola parts act as markers rather than decoration. They punctuate the long lines of lawn and paving, and they help the eye move from one zone to the next. The wood has enough presence to stand out against the pale terrace surface, while the planting keeps those elements from feeling hard. Seen together, the materials create a sequence: grass, stone, wood, green. It is a simple order, but it gives the garden a clear rhythm.

The project also shows how a basic layout can still hold variety. Children have open space on the lawn. Adults have a sheltered place in the corner. Between those two uses, the garden keeps a calm visual register through evergreen planting, low borders and the fixed frame of the pergola. The result is a garden with veranda and outdoor kitchen that is easy to understand at a glance, yet detailed enough to stay interesting when the light changes.

As daylight fades, the planted edges and terrace lighting take over from the open lawn. The garden no longer reads as one large surface, but as a sequence of rooms without walls: grass in the middle, planting at the sides, and a lit corner for sitting and cooking. That structure matches the brief closely. It keeps the setting close to nature, keeps the language of the garden plain, and gives the veranda enough definition to be used well into the evening.
