Home renovation: modern villa with large windows and custom wood interiors

Large panes of glass set the tone before any furniture appears. In this home renovation, the eye moves from the straight lines of the villa to the wood accents, stone surfaces and framed views of the garden. The result is easy to read from the outside and just as layered inside, where a custom wood feature wall, a built-in fireplace and smaller colour moments shape each room.

  • Modern villa large windows opening the living spaces to the garden
  • Custom wood feature wall with built-in wine storage and a bar/work surface
  • Built-in fireplace living room with stone and brick details
  • Green mosaic bathroom accent used as a clear visual marker

Glass, gravel and a clean route to the house

The exterior reads in planes: white volumes, wood accents and wide openings that cut across the façade. A curved driveway in gravel softens the approach, while lawn and a tall hedge hold the edges in place. Upstairs windows break the white surface and bring another layer of depth to the composition. It is a straightforward setting, but the material shifts keep it from feeling flat.

At the back, the house opens to a terrace where the garden sits just beyond the large glazing. The sliding doors make that transition visible, not hidden. You can see the interior floor meeting the outdoor paving, with a planted strip and gravel section marking the line between living space and garden. That indoor-outdoor living with sliding doors is one of the clearest ideas in the project: rooms extend outward without losing their own frame.

Terrace edges and the garden side of the plan

The rear side is less about decoration than about movement. A wooden screen appears beside the glazing, and the terrace stays low and direct, with no dramatic threshold interrupting the view. From inside, the glass gives the living zone a second wall made of light and reflection. From outside, the house keeps its crisp outline while the planting and gravel lead the eye toward the openings.

A living room organized around firelight and stone

In the living room, the built-in fireplace sits as a fixed point in the room rather than a loose object against the wall. Black framing outlines the opening, while a brick or stone element beside it gives the composition more weight. The sofa area stays low and calm in front of the glazing, with horizontal blinds filtering the light from outside. Nothing is overdesigned; the room works through proportion, texture and the line of the fire.

Another view shows the fireplace tucked into a strikinger niche, with indirect lighting lifting the edge above it. That small light strip changes the wall at night and makes the masonry feel more graphic. The stone and brick do the heavier work, while the black surround keeps the built-in fireplace living room detail sharp. It is one of the strongest anchors in the interior, partly because it sits so naturally next to the large windows.

Custom wood that does more than finish a wall

The wood feature wall is not a single surface but a working piece of joinery. Built-in wine racks sit inside the timber, and a blocky bar or worktop projects from the base. The front pieces below have a solid, cabinet-like rhythm, which makes the whole zone feel measured rather than decorative. Hanging lamps bring a narrow pool of light onto the surface, so the wall reads as both storage and a social counter.

That custom wood feature wall shows the project’s preference for built work over loose objects. The grain, the shelf openings and the bar top all contribute to the room, and the repeated lines of the wine storage give the wall a visible cadence. Even without excess ornament, the joinery carries the space. It also links well with the rest of the home renovation, where materials are allowed to define how each area is used.

A work area with glass at the edge

The office space is set against a glass frontage, so the green outside stays present while the desk area remains visually open. Wooden wall sections temper the brightness of the glazing, and two workstations sit on a white desk line with screens facing inward. The arrangement is direct and practical, but the large panes keep the room from becoming isolated. It reads like a clear pause in the plan, one that still belongs to the wider interior.

What stands out here is the contrast between the transparent wall and the denser wooden surfaces. The glass brings in the garden view; the timber gives the work zone a boundary. Rather than using a heavy partition, the room stays readable from end to end. That lightness fits the rest of the house, where open sightlines and custom wood surfaces keep reappearing in different forms.

Green panels and stone in the corridor

A bright green wall becomes the main event in the hallway. The panelled surface runs long and flat, broken into segments that catch the ceiling spots above. On one side, a stone wall introduces a rougher texture, so the corridor shifts from smooth colour to mineral surface in a few steps. It is a small space, but the colour and light give it a clear identity without adding more objects.

Seen from another angle, the hall also links back to the broader material palette of the house. The stone, the painted panels and the controlled lighting echo what appears elsewhere in the renovation: a preference for surfaces that are easy to read from a distance and more detailed up close. The green is bold, but it is the geometry of the panels that keeps it orderly.

Bathroom surfaces with a measured colour accent

The bathroom uses a green mosaic bathroom accent around the bath and shower area, and the small tile format changes the mood of the room immediately. The mosaic shifts between blue-green tones, while white sanitary pieces keep the rest of the room light. A glass partition marks the shower zone, and the tiled surface continues behind the bath in one of the images, which makes the colour read as a wrapped field rather than a single splash.

There is no excess detailing here, only clear contrasts: glossy mosaic, white fittings and straight lines at the edges of the room. That makes the bathroom easy to read in a project gallery. It also gives the home renovation another register beyond timber and stone. Where the living room relies on weight and fire, the bathroom uses pattern and colour to hold attention.

Material changes that keep the house moving

Across the villa, the strongest moments come from transitions. Wood meets glass at the office, stone meets light in the hall, and the living room places fire beside brick and black framing. The exterior repeats that idea with white walls, wood accents and open panes that look toward the garden. Each area uses a different surface, but none of them shout. They hold the view and guide it from one room to the next.

The project is described simply as realized by Boudewijn Slings, and the images carry the rest of the story. What remains visible is a home renovation built from clear moves: large openings, fixed joinery, a fireplace set into the wall, and small colour interventions where a room needs them most. The villa stays readable because those elements are used with restraint, not repetition.

From the gravel drive to the terrace, from the custom wood feature wall to the green mosaic bathroom accent, the house keeps returning to the same basic discipline: each surface has a role. That makes the rooms easy to follow, even as the materials change. The result is a sequence of spaces that stay connected by light, by line and by the way the windows keep pulling the outside back in.
