An extensive remodel in Los Angeles’ Mar Vista neighborhood was an opportunity for Kim to develop a visual impact that conveyed the essence of her client’s personality. Otherworldly luxe and a sacred connection to nature became the themes of this warm and restorative suite.

Using antique pieces sourced in Bali and custom-designed Moroccan furniture, Kim created a space that feels rooted in the past, aspirational and thoroughly of the moment. It almost magically draws one in, as if stepping into another universe.

Achieving this inviting effect involved an engineering puzzle: Two heavy beams over the center of the primary bedroom felt stagnant and stifling. Kim removed the beams to create a haven of space and light that greets the visitor at the top of the stairs.

To promote health and well-being, Kim designed key elements, such as lighting and noise control, to promote deep sleep and lower stress levels. By adding a balcony overlooking the pool, her client enjoys a far-sighted yet soothing ocean view. This fills the room with nautical breezes and makes the room a sanctuary where nature surrounds and heals. 

Through careful decorative decisions, a space that was previously dark and choppy gained an ethereal feel. The room was wrapped in a light palette of color and layered in sumptuous, touchable textures to make its occupant feel utterly nurtured.

The tiny bathroom was barely large enough for the cramped and dark shower.Utilizing feng shui, Kim added a skylight to maximize the spatial perspective. One wall was opened up on a diagonal to allow a more pleasing flow to the floorplan. For this oasis of self-care, almost every finishing material was sustainably sourced and selected for its nature-mimicking look and feel, amplifying the rejuvenating effect.
