Classic modern townhouse interior

Blue cabinetry sets the tone as soon as the eye reaches the kitchen, where brass handles catch the light and a pale stone-look countertop pulls the darker colour forward. In this classic modern interior, the long rooms of the townhouse are not hidden; they are used. Light travels across painted mouldings, wood floors, and tall openings, while warmer notes in walnut, ochre, and brown keep the rooms from feeling too sharp.

Light, height, and the long view through the house

The starting point was a natural light lighting plan that could work with daylight, contemporary lamps, and even candlelight. High ceilings and elongated rooms ask for a different rhythm than a compact apartment. Here, the lines stay visible: ceiling cornices, straight wall planes, and a stair run that reads almost like a drawn line. That clarity gives the classic modern interior its structure, while patterned surfaces and layered colours bring the rooms back to a domestic scale.

Seen from one room to the next, the project moves between restraint and detail. A painted stair, a timber floor with a clear grain, and the shift from cool blue to warmer wall tones make the transition feel deliberate. Nothing is overworked. The materials do the work instead, with light reflecting differently on plaster, fabric, marble-look surfaces, and brass. It is a house that relies on proportion as much as on decoration.

A blue kitchen framed by brass and wood

The kitchen is the most direct expression of the palette. Blue cabinetry runs along the wall, finished with brass hardware and a matching metal plate that brings a sharper edge to the joinery. Walnut softens the assembly and gives the room a deeper base note. The pale worktop, with its stone-like surface, keeps the composition from becoming heavy, especially where daylight falls across the sink and upper cabinets. This is a blue kitchen with brass hardware that works through contrast rather than ornament.

An adjoining dining setting extends the same language into the room next door. Table and chairs sit below a chandelier, while small objects such as artwork, sculptures, and old candlesticks add a more personal register. The result is not a showroom setting. It is a room where colour, timber, and metal are repeated just enough to link the spaces, and where the stone-look countertop in the kitchen reads as part of a larger material sequence rather than a single feature.

Details that hold the room together

Close up, the joinery is doing several jobs at once. Brass touches lift the blue fronts. Walnut prevents the scheme from feeling flat. The pale countertop keeps the surfaces legible in daylight. These are not separate gestures, but a set of cues that guide the eye from one surface to the next. In a classic modern interior, that kind of control matters more than display, and here it gives the kitchen its measured pace.

Wallpaper, leather, and a more personal family room

The family room shifts the mood without breaking the overall language. A burgundy leather coffee table anchors the centre, while wallpaper in ochre and gold gives the walls a patterned depth that changes with the light. A tall floor lamp stands beside it, adding a vertical note against the horizontal run of the room. The mix is more eclectic here, but the palette stays anchored in the same family of blues, browns, and warm metallic tones.

What makes this room effective is the way the materials speak at different distances. From across the room, the wallpaper reads as texture and tone. Up close, the pattern becomes clearer and the leather surface of the table gains weight. That shift matters in a townhouse with long rooms, because each zone needs its own focus point. Here, the table takes that role, and the wall finish gives it a backdrop that does not compete for attention.

A botanical wallpaper accent wall with depth

Several rooms use wallpaper as more than a decorative skin. A botanical wallpaper accent wall appears in the photographs as a dark pattern against lighter plaster, and it changes the way a room feels as you move past it. The motif brings movement to otherwise straight-lined architecture. In the bedroom and adjacent spaces, that pattern sits beside timber floors and painted trim, which keeps the surface grounded. It is the kind of detail that rewards a slower look.

Marble-look finishes in the quieter rooms

The wet areas turn to Carrara marble in a hexagon format, which gives the floor a measured pattern without overwhelming the room. On the walls, decorative paper and an antique mirror create a more layered surface. White framing around openings and niches sharpens the edges, while the stone-look finish keeps the space connected to the rest of the house. The bathroom design relies on those small shifts in texture: polished against matte, patterned against plain, reflective against opaque.

That same attention carries into the bedroom, where lighter tones meet bolder patterns. The room does not flatten into either softness or drama. Instead, it sits in between, with light-coloured fabric, wallpaper, and the visible grain of the floor working together. The effect is quiet but not blank. In a classic modern interior, that restraint is often what lets the stronger colours elsewhere feel convincing.

Entrances, trims, and the value of a painted line

The entrance is described as a jewel, and the image supports that reading through the painted staircase, the careful mouldings, and the way the space opens on arrival. A striped wool runner traces the stair and gives the ascent a tactile line. Around it, the colours stay controlled, so the architectural details remain easy to read. This is where the townhouse feels most clearly itself: tall, elongated, and shaped by material rather than by gesture.

Throughout the house, the classic modern interior depends on a series of repeated signals: brass against blue, timber against paint, pattern against plain wall, daylight against lamp light. Those pairings are present in the kitchen, the family room, the bedroom, and the bathroom, but they never feel forced into one formula. Instead, each room picks up a different part of the palette and carries it forward. That is what gives the project its coherence without flattening the individual spaces.
