Country oak kitchen with dark grey finish

A dark grey oil pulls the grain forward on the oak fronts, giving this country oak kitchen a deeper tone without hiding the wood. The brushed surface still reads clearly, especially where light catches the drawers and tall cabinet doors. Against the white tiled backsplash behind the cooking area, the darker finish has more weight, and the contrast is immediate rather than decorative.

Oak fronts with visible grain

The oak was brushed before the oil was applied, so the surface keeps a slight texture instead of a flat sheen. That detail matters here because the visible oak grain runs through the whole run of cabinetry, from the lower units to the taller storage wall. The dark grey oiled oak does not mute the material; it simply makes the lines in the timber more legible, especially in the close-up views of the handles and drawer fronts.

What stands out next is the way the fronts carry the room. The wood sits within a broad kitchen wall, with open shelves and built-in storage breaking up the larger blocks of cabinetry. The result is measured and practical in appearance, but the eye keeps moving from panel to panel because the grain shifts subtly from one board to the next.

Black kitchen handles on the oak fronts

The black kitchen handles cut across the warm tone of the oak and give the drawers a sharper line. They are long, narrow pieces, placed low on the fronts so the cabinetry still reads as a calm surface with hardware that only appears when you come closer. In the project images, the handles also connect visually with the dark countertop and the black cooking zone, so the room holds its materials together through repeated dark accents rather than through ornament.

One of the handle details is the butterfly-shaped model used on the cabinets, shown here in a dark iron finish. It is a small shape, but it changes how the fronts are read. Instead of disappearing into the wood, it marks each opening point clearly. The same family of handles is also available in other sizes and as knobs, which suits a kitchen like this where the fittings are part of the visual rhythm of the joinery.

Dark grey oiled oak and the cooking wall

The cooking area is framed by white tiled backsplash panels, set out in a regular grid behind the range and along the wall. That tile field gives the dark grey oiled oak something bright and clean to sit against. The change from wood to tile is abrupt, and the kitchen uses that shift well: the darker fronts ground the room while the white ceramic surface keeps the cooking wall readable, even with the integrated appliances and rails above it.

Near the hob, the black finishes become more concentrated. The cooker zone, the oven stack and the dark work surface gather into one compact part of the room, which makes the rest of the kitchen feel more open. The tile joints, the metal rails and the dark appliance faces are all visible at once, so the wall works as both a working zone and a strong visual panel.

A dark countertop that carries the run of units

The dark countertop runs across the lower cabinets as a steady horizontal band. It does not try to stand out from the rest of the room; instead, it supports the darker notes already present in the handles, ovens and cooking area. Because the surface is so visually close to the dark grey oil on the oak, the joinery reads as one continuous composition, but each material still keeps its own texture. The countertop edge and the front grain can be read separately when the light shifts across them.

At the sink zone, the same dark surface continues without interruption, which keeps the work areas aligned. The sink and tap sit within that dark plane, while the white wall tiles rise behind them. This makes the kitchen easy to read in sections: a cooking wall, a washing zone and longer stretches of storage, all tied together by the same restrained palette.

Built-in appliances in a classic frame

The built-in kitchen appliances are set into a classical arrangement, but the outlines stay clean. Ovens are stacked into the cabinetry, and the black cooking zone sits firmly within the oak frame rather than breaking away from it. That means the technology is present without taking over the room. The cabinetry keeps the appliances in line, and the surrounding fronts keep their place as the dominant material surface.

Open shelving and recessed niches soften the heavier runs of storage. They also interrupt the broader cabinet wall at useful points, especially where the kitchen needs a place for objects that should stay visible. The shelves appear light against the darker wood and worktop, and that contrast helps the wall avoid becoming one solid block of cabinetry. The whole arrangement stays straightforward: storage, cooking, washing and display each have their own zone.

Terracotta floor and broad kitchen layout

The terracotta tile floor brings a warmer colour note below the oak and the dark worktop. Its surface sits well with the rural character of the room, but it also helps the kitchen feel grounded across its full width. In the wider views, the floor ties together the long cabinetry run, the separate work zones and the open walking space in front of them. The kitchen reads as broad and usable, with enough depth for the eye to take in several layers at once.

Plafond spots pick out the surfaces without flattening them. Light lands on the brushed oak, slides over the dark countertop and catches on the white tiled backsplash in small flashes. That mix of materials is what gives this country oak kitchen its clarity: visible oak grain, black kitchen handles, a dark grey oiled finish, a white tiled backsplash and a dark countertop that holds the whole composition in place.
