Wooddeck

Poolside decking with a rural and modern look

The first thing you notice is the line of decking running tight along the pool edge. It follows the rectangular basin in long, straight bands, then meets a low wall of rough natural stone. That contrast sets the tone for the whole garden: a rural setting with clear geometry, a pool framed by decking by swimming pool edge, and a lawn that softens the hard surfaces at the sides.

Decking that traces the waterline

On both sides of the pool, the deck boards continue as a border rather than stopping short of the water. That junction of decking and pool edge is kept visually calm, with the boards laid in clean lengths that guide the eye along the basin. The result is not a broad terrace floating away from the pool, but a narrow edge treatment that stays close to the water and sharpens the pool’s outline.

The warm brown tone of the boards gives the hard surfaces some depth without pulling attention away from the basin. It also links the deck to the brick outbuilding and the planting beyond, where green lawn and a few planted beds frame the terrace. Seen from above, the pool edge finishing reads as one continuous strip, with the deck boards along pool creating a clear line from corner to corner.

Wood-look composite with a practical surface

For this terrace, the choice fell on wood-look composite decking in Coppered Oak. The boards do not contain wood, yet they carry the grain and color range of timber closely enough to sit naturally beside the stone wall and the garden planting. That makes them an apt material for a poolside setting where the surface is read as part of the landscape rather than as a separate platform.

The source text notes that the boards are resistant to pool water and weather. It also states that they do not splinter or rot, which matters here because the deck runs directly beside the swimming area. Bare feet meet a surface without loose fibers or broken edges, and the finish stays visually composed even where the terrace is exposed to water and changing conditions.

Special edge pieces around steps and levels

What sets this terrace apart is the way the deck system handles the edge detail. The project mentions special finishes for pool edges, raised sections and steps, and those transitions are visible in the photos as the deck shifts from horizontal run to border and level change. The rounded detail in the decking appears in a small opening within the surface, breaking the strict geometry for a moment before the lines continue again.

That kind of finish matters in a poolside deck because the eye moves quickly from board to water to wall. Here, the details are controlled without being hidden. The terrace does not rely on decorative gestures; instead, it uses the junction between deck and pool edge to do the work. The edge line stays legible, and the surfaces around it remain easy to read.

Stone, grass and the pool wall in one frame

The natural stone pool wall gives the setting a heavier base. Its irregular blocks contrast with the long deck boards and the flat water surface, and that contrast is visible from several angles in the image set. Beside the stone, the lawn runs right up to the terrace edge, so the pool zone does not feel isolated from the rest of the garden. It sits in a clear sequence of materials: grass, board, stone, water.

The outbuilding in the background reinforces the rural side of the project. Brick and wood accents appear there, but they never compete with the pool. Instead, they echo the quieter palette of the terrace and the garden beds. The deck around pool therefore acts as a connector, holding together the building, the masonry wall and the open water in a single view.

Close views of the junction and grain

The detail photographs show what the wider view suggests. You can see the voeglijnen between the boards, the grain structure in the surface and the neat line where the terrace meets the water. In one image, the round deck fitting detail sits in the middle of the planks, small but noticeable against the repeated board pattern. These are modest features, yet they define how the deck is experienced up close.

Because the surface runs so close to the pool, the edge treatment has to read clearly from both standing height and above. The boards along pool do that without visual noise. Their length, color and texture remain consistent, while the stone wall and the blue water give the terrace a stronger frame. It is a restrained composition, but not a plain one.

Seen as a whole, the project is less about adding a separate terrace than about extending the pool edge into the garden. The decking by swimming pool edge creates that transition, linking the water to the lawn and the stone retaining wall in one continuous move. The material choice keeps the line calm, the finish stays readable, and the pool remains the central element of the landscape.
