Fairytale woodland garden in Bonheiden

Tuinen Joos, founded by Kristof Joos in 2005, is a dynamic and young design agency specializing in the design and construction of gardens. At Gardens Joos, projects are developed from three parameters, namely the client’s wishes, the existing architecture and the surrounding landscape. These three pillars were also considered at this beautiful woodland garden in Bonheiden.

Aesthetics and functionality
“We were involved in this project at an early stage. There was good interaction between the client and architect Reginald Schellen. Being involved in a project so early on allows us to design a garden that fits perfectly with the architecture,” said Kristof Joos. Here, finding the right balance between aesthetics and functionality is always central. Each garden is unique and highly personalized. Gardens Joos hereby employs all its expertise and experience to realize the desired garden for the client.

Planting matched to the environment
“The project is located in a wooded area with mostly pine trees (Pinus). We adjusted the underplanting accordingly by working with plants that occur naturally here such as pipe grass (Molinia), heather and holly (also called Ilex).” Here we see well how the surrounding landscape is incorporated into the design and construction. “The client’s starting point was to create a woodland garden. However, sufficient privacy had to be provided on the street side.” This was overcome by constructing a gate consisting of black columns and lined with hardwood vertical slats. Large massive beeches were also planted to provide shelter and privacy.

Fairytale beauty
When the sunlight falls through the trees into the garden you imagine yourself in a true fairy tale. You get the feeling of being in a forest, on the moor and in a garden at the same time. The organic shapes, tall narrow trees and large windows in the villa create a playful look with lots of light. Organic but ordered, everyone wants a garden like that, right?
