Family home renovation with terrazzo and custom interiors

A terrazzo threshold, a dark-framed glass door, and a wooden floor that runs deeper into the house set the tone straight away. The nineteenth-century shell was kept intact, but the interior was reorganized into a family home with a clearer route through the ground floor and a calmer division between rooms. Doors were moved, a rear extension added depth at the back, and the rooms now read in sequence instead of fighting one another. The result is a family home renovation where the layout does the quiet work and the finishes carry the eye.

Rooms that follow the house, not the other way around

The ground floor now opens up through longer sightlines and cleaner transitions. A large living area sits beside glazing, with daylight washing across the floor and picking out the edges of the custom built-in cabinets. The kitchen is placed as part of that same daily route, with a tall cabinet wall and a darker working zone that pulls the eye inward. Rather than forcing everything into one open expanse, the new modern house layout gives each function a clear place. That shift is what makes the interior renovation feel composed.

Wood, glass, and terrazzo do most of the talking. Dark window frames and interior doors cut a sharper line through the pale walls, while the floor surface keeps the ground level visually continuous. In the living spaces, the details stay close to the architecture: slim plinths, concealed storage, and openings that let one room borrow light from another. The family home renovation is strongest here, where the plan changes are visible in the way you move from the entrance to the living room and then on toward the kitchen.

Terrazzo returns as a recurring thread

Terrazzo appears more than once, and that repetition gives the interior a steady point of reference. It shows up as an accent in surfaces and details, sometimes close to the eye, sometimes only as a field of speckled stone that catches the light. The material links the different rooms without turning them into copies of one another. In a historic house with ornate bones, that matters. The terrazzo interior keeps one foot in the present and one in the building’s earlier life, without leaning on nostalgia.

The palette around it stays restrained: white walls, grey and beige tones, and darker notes in the frames and fittings. Because the materials are allowed to vary in texture rather than colour alone, each room feels distinct. The family home renovation uses that contrast well. A smooth cabinet front meets a rougher stone-look surface. Glass sits against painted wall surfaces. Terrazzo bridges the two. It is a small move, but it gives the whole interior more tension than a single finish ever could.

Custom built-in cabinets that keep the walls tidy

Storage is handled with flat-front custom built-in cabinets that sit close to the wall rather than projecting into the room. Their job is simple: reduce visual noise and leave the major surfaces open. In the hallway, this approach keeps the passage clear. In the living areas, it lets the furniture read against a quieter background. The doors and panels are detailed to stay visually restrained, so the room can hold a large painting, a sofa group, or a change in light without feeling busy. That kind of joinery is a clear part of the interior renovation.

The stair zone benefits from the same approach. Darker frames, white walls, and a pale wooden floor create a strong vertical sequence, so the movement between levels feels legible at a glance. There is no excess ornament fighting for attention. Instead, the family home renovation relies on measured openings and precise edges. The house becomes easier to read from room to room, which is especially important in a building that now carries different functions on three floors.

A kitchen framed by height and contrast

The kitchen reads as a working volume rather than a display piece. Tall cabinets organize the storage vertically, and a darker work zone cuts across the lighter room. The counter surface and back area have the look of stone or composite, which gives the space a denser texture than the surrounding walls. This is where the modern house layout becomes practical in the best sense: the room is compact in its gestures, but it still holds enough material contrast to stay visually active. The kitchen design supports the wider family home renovation without taking over the page.

Openings beside the kitchen bring in daylight from the larger rooms and the windows beyond. That light catches the cabinet fronts and the darker work strip in different ways during the day, changing the room without adding more elements. The kitchen sits within the interior renovation as one part of a larger system of movement, storage, and use. Nothing feels isolated. The line from the entrance to the living room to the kitchen stays readable, even as the materials shift underfoot and along the walls.

Bathrooms with glass, stone, and a quieter palette

The bathrooms are drawn in a more pared-back register, with a glass shower enclosure, pale wall surfaces, and stone-look finishes that hold up well to close view. One bathroom includes a freestanding bath with a rounded profile, set near a window fitted with horizontal slats or a blind. Another shows the shower zone more directly, with glass separating the wet area from the rest of the room. The luxury bathroom theme is not announced loudly; it comes through in the spacing, the fixtures, and the way the surfaces meet.

Black taps and darker details sharpen the pale field around them. In close-up, the bath edge, a ledge, and the shower screen become the main lines in the room. These choices keep the bathrooms aligned with the rest of the family home renovation: restrained colours, clear outlines, and materials that feel considered from a distance and at arm’s length. The glass shower is especially effective because it preserves the room’s openness while still defining the wet zone.

Upstairs, the house splits into adult and children’s territory

The first floor is reserved for the parents, with a work room, wardrobe, and a generous bedroom and bathroom. That division gives the private level a more settled rhythm. The second floor is arranged for the children, with two bedrooms, a playroom, and a bathroom. The house therefore works as a family home renovation not just because the finishes are updated, but because each floor has a distinct daily pattern. Sleeping, working, dressing, and playing are separated without turning the house into a chain of closed boxes.

Seen this way, the plan is the real structure of the story. The lower floor supports shared life. The first floor gives the adults their own zone. The top floor carries the children’s rooms and play space. That functional order is easy to grasp in the way the stairs, doors, and landings connect the levels. The interior renovation respects the original house while giving each floor a more practical role, and the result feels precise rather than overdrawn.

Light, frames, and the room between rooms

Several images show how the house uses glass to keep spaces visually linked. Dark frames outline doorways and glazed partitions, while the wooden floor continues underneath them. In the entrance and hallway, that means the eye can move straight toward the stairs or into the next room. In the living area, the same strategy lets the furniture sit against a clear architectural backdrop. The family home renovation gains much of its clarity from these in-between spaces, where one room hands over to the next without a heavy break.

What lingers most is the discipline of the detailing. The crown molding stays light and linear. The walls are kept plain enough to support large artwork. The cabinets sit flush. The terrazzo interior returns as a material note rather than a decorative flourish. Together, those decisions turn a nineteenth-century shell into a lived-in sequence of rooms that feels tailored to a family’s daily route, from the entry to the top floor and back again.
