Hotel Frank since 1666, Thorbeckeplein Amsterdam
In 2020 there is nothing left of the wealth of the golden age. The dilapidated buildings from 1666 have been restored and are ready for a new rich future. The wealth of the golden age has been brought back into the interior so that the spirit of the rich trading past will continue to breathe through these properties at the golden bend. The luxury and opulence of the Baroque contrasts with the aesthetics of this modern era. This is down to earth, experimental, innovative and sexy. The result is an eclectic combination of modern and classic with theatrical lighting, using the technique of chiaroscuro. Raw masonry next to perfectly upholstered walls. Old Dutch masters make way for contemporary photography in the spheres of a wunderkammer. Here the past comes back to life in the present, or more accurately, the present cannot exist without the past, “the golden bend now.”
