Modern Garden Renovation with Levels and Privacy

The first thing you notice is the shift underfoot: tile, wood and stone each mark their own part of the garden renovation, while the levels step down toward a more sheltered zone. The layout is clear without feeling rigid. Wide terraces sit above, a quieter area settles lower, and the material changes help the eye read the distance between them. It is a layered garden design that uses every change in height to create a different pace.

Terraces built around the change in level

Long steel piles form the hidden base, with hardwood frames above them carrying the paving and decking. That structure allows the upper terrace to stay broad and open, with planted cut-outs breaking up the paving in measured blocks. From there, the garden moves toward the lower level near the water route, where the space becomes smaller and more enclosed. The result is a modern terrace garden that is organised by section rather than by decoration.

On the upper side, the deck and tile terrace gives room for dining, walking and sitting in direct relation to the house. The joints stay straight, the edges are crisp, and the planting pockets keep the surface from reading as one large slab. The level change is not hidden. It is used as a spatial device, giving the garden a clear upper plateau and a lower retreat.

Privacy comes from walls, planting and placement

Instead of relying on a single screen, the privacy garden is built from several layers. A black slatted wall backs the lounge bench, while a dense bamboo hedge softens one side of the lower zone. A wall finished with stone strips closes off the jacuzzi area and gives it more shelter. Each element does a specific job, and together they shape a space that feels screened without becoming shut in.

The lower level is the most enclosed part of the garden, and that is where the view becomes quieter. The bamboo hedge adds height and density, while the stone strip wall keeps the surfaces aligned with the rest of the scheme. Even the placement of the seating follows this logic: the bench sits with its back protected, and the surrounding surfaces hold the eye close to the ground. In this part of the garden renovation, privacy is not an afterthought but a visible part of the plan.

Material continuity between house and garden

One of the clearest gestures is the use of the same stone strips at the outdoor shower as in the kitchen. That repeat does more than link two spaces. It gives the garden a material reference that runs from inside to outside, especially where the wall surfaces catch light at an angle. The shower is read as part of the wider composition, not as a separate object placed beside it. In a privacy garden, that kind of consistency matters because it keeps the eye moving through the same palette.

A white storage cabinet with wooden doors sits into a large planting element and bridges the height difference at the same time. It is not just a box for cushions. Its position makes it part of the wall-like planting structure, so storage, planting and level change sit in one line. The detail is practical, but it also tightens the edge of the lower terrace and keeps the arrangement legible from the main level above.

Wood, tile and composite as zoning tools

The strongest contrast in the garden renovation comes from the meeting of ceramic paving and composite decking. The tile surface dominates the dining area, where a black outdoor kitchen sets a darker anchor against the light ground. The deck, by contrast, belongs to the lounge and wellness outdoor space. Its warmer tone changes the character of the ground plane and gives the lower areas a more relaxed finish without losing the straight geometry of the plan.

These materials are not used simply for contrast. They mark the transitions between sitting, eating and washing, and they help the eye understand where one function ends and another begins. In the deck and tile terrace, that distinction is visible at once: the hard, flat tile field supports the cooking zone, while the deck carries the softer seating and the wellness elements. The whole scheme reads as a sequence of outdoor rooms linked by surface changes.

A lounge zone shaped by edges and shelter

The lounge area depends on its borders. Black vertical slats, stone-faced walls and the edge of the upper terrace give the seating a clear frame. Under the canopy, the furniture sits low against those darker lines, so the space feels settled rather than exposed. Evening light reinforces that reading. It catches the stone, slides across the deck boards and leaves the rest of the garden in deeper shade.

The lighting does not try to make everything visible at once. It picks out the walls, the seating edge and the transition between deck and paving, which makes the garden easier to read after dark. In the warmer hours, the same surfaces behave differently: the tiles stay cooler in tone, the wood absorbs more light, and the planting pockets interrupt the hard lines with soft verticals. That mix gives the outdoor living area its rhythm.

Outdoor kitchen area and wellness outdoor space

The outdoor kitchen area sits directly on the tiled terrace, which gives it a firm base and keeps the cooking zone visually separate from the lounge. The black kitchen body stands out against the paving and nearby planting, while the glass line beside it lets the view continue through the garden. Nearby, the lower zone holds the more private functions: a jacuzzi, an outdoor shower and a screened seating corner. It is a wellness outdoor space, but one that stays tied to the rest of the layout.

What makes the composition work is the way each function occupies its own surface. Water, seating and cooking are split across levels and materials, yet the transitions remain short and direct. A step, a wall, a hedge or a change from tile to wood is enough to signal the next zone. That restraint keeps the garden renovation readable from the house and from inside the garden itself.

How the garden reads at night

Once the light comes on, the contrast between materials becomes sharper. The stone walls take on a rough edge, the decking turns darker and the planted cut-outs become pockets of shadow. The lighting is placed to support the routes and to frame the terraces, not to flood the entire garden. That choice works well in a layered garden design, because it keeps the level changes visible after dusk.

The final impression is one of clear ordering rather than display. Every part of the garden has a surface, a border and a use: the upper terrace for gathering, the lower zone for privacy and recovery, the kitchen for eating, the deck for sitting. The materials do the work of dividing and connecting, which is what makes this garden renovation feel resolved without ever becoming repetitive.
