Modern villa interior with custom wall and warm materials

The dark custom wall unit sets the tone as soon as you enter the living area. Open niches, a built-in fireplace and a natural stone finish break up the long wall, while the herringbone oak floor pulls the space into focus. The room once had awkward leftover corners caused by angled walls; here, those weak points have been turned into two seating areas that read as separate zones without closing the room off. Two rugs mark that split clearly, and the result is a modern villa interior that feels organised without looking rigid.

Two seating areas framed by rugs and light

The seating arrangement depends on simple moves rather than heavy construction. One sofa group sits against the dark joinery, another opens toward the windows, and both are held by pale rugs that define the floor beneath them. That framing matters because it gives each zone its own rhythm. The furniture stays low and relaxed, while the surrounding surfaces do the harder work: glass, stone and oak keep the lines clear, and the room no longer loses itself in unused corners.

From one side to the other, the eye keeps moving between soft upholstery and sharper edges. A round table appears in one of the views, a glazed partition with black profiles in another, and large curtains temper the wall of windows beyond. The seating areas are close enough to belong together, yet the rugs and the built-in elements prevent them from merging into one oversized lounge. That separation is modest, but it gives the whole level its order.

A built-in fireplace anchored in stone and oak

The built-in fireplace is part of a larger composition, not a lone feature on the wall. It sits within the custom wall unit, where black-stained oak, natural stone and leather meet in one piece of joinery. In the photographs, the fire sits in a rectangular recess and the stone around it keeps the opening visually tight. Nearby, open shelves and darker panels add depth without crowding the wall. It is a restrained move, but it changes how the living room reads: the fireplace becomes the centre of a sequence rather than a decorative afterthought.

That same material discipline carries across the room. The oak floor in herringbone pattern adds direction underfoot, especially where the light catches the angled boards. Against that pattern, the dark wall unit reads as a fixed element, almost like furniture built into the architecture. The project does not lean on ornament. Instead, the built-in fireplace and the surrounding joinery do the work of holding the space together while leaving room for the sofas, tables and rugs to speak for themselves.

Custom wall unit with open niches

The custom wall unit is more than storage. Its open niches lighten the dark face of the wall and give books, objects or equipment a place to sit without visual clutter. In the images, the unit forms a backdrop to the lounge and also frames the built-in fireplace, so the two functions are read together. That combination makes the wall feel measured, not full. It also reflects the brief of this modern villa interior: remove dead space, keep the main functions in place, and let the room gain clarity through layout rather than additions.

Kitchen views turned toward the garden

The kitchen is oriented toward the garden, which pulls light deeper into the plan and softens the harder surfaces around it. Dark custom kitchen cabinetry gives the zone a strong outline, while the stone backsplash and worktop tones keep it from becoming flat. Hints of wood and bronze are used as counterweights to the concrete and glass elsewhere in the interior. The effect is not decorative layering. It is a controlled mix of surfaces that makes the cooking area feel connected to the rest of the house without repeating the living room exactly.

In the photographs, the kitchen reads as a dark block set into a larger open floor plan. A long island or work surface sits beneath open space and adjacent seating, and the adjacent dining view shows the same restraint in detail. Light from the windows keeps the finishes legible: the stone catches a dull reflection, the dark fronts absorb it, and the whole area stays visually quiet. That is important in a modern villa interior where the kitchen cannot dominate every other room.

Stone, bronze and wood against harder finishes

The source text names a material response rather than a single showpiece. Wood, bronze and natural stone are set against concrete and glass, and the idea is easy to read in the rooms shown. The lounge uses those softer finishes in the wall unit and floor, while the kitchen and adjacent zones use darker surfaces to keep the plan grounded. Nothing is overworked. Each material has a clear role, whether it is reflecting light, closing a recess or tempering a broad plane of glass.

Indoor pool interior with concrete cire and timber

The indoor pool interior extends the same material thinking into a separate zone. Concrete cire and wood appear around the pool, where the pale basin, tiled edges and vertical timber slats give the room a different texture from the living area. The blue water sits low in the frame and the wood panel acts almost like a backdrop, so the pool reads as part of the house rather than a detached amenity. It is a quieter room, but the contrast between smooth surfaces and timber keeps it visually active.

Seen alongside the living spaces, the pool confirms how consistently the interior has been handled. The surfaces are still restrained, yet they are not sterile. The wood softens the hard finish of concrete cire, and the surrounding walls keep the geometry simple. That restraint is what links the pool back to the rest of the home: the same preference for clear lines, direct materials and spaces that are shaped by use rather than excess.

Daylight, curtains and glazed transitions

Large windows bring daylight across the lounge and dining areas, and the curtains and blinds are part of the composition, not an afterthought. They soften the glare on the dark joinery and let the furniture sit against a calmer background. A glazed partition with slim black frames appears between zones, opening sightlines while still marking where one area ends and another begins. The house depends on those transitions. They keep the plan open, but they also stop it from becoming vague.

The stair detail reinforces that same approach. Dark wooden treads and a light carpet surface are visible in one view, a quiet interruption between the more public rooms. Nothing shouts for attention. Instead, the interior uses material changes, framed openings and measured furniture groupings to remove the dead space left by the angled walls. The result is a modern villa interior that reads clearly from room to room, with each zone shaped by a specific material move.

What holds the plan together

What stays with you is not one dramatic gesture but the way the parts relate. The custom wall unit links the seating areas, the built-in fireplace sits inside that structure, and the herringbone oak floor runs beneath both. In the kitchen, the darker cabinetry and stone surfaces continue the same language, while the indoor pool interior carries it into a more enclosed setting. Across all of it, the original problem of leftover space is gone, replaced by rooms that have edges, pauses and enough distinction to feel legible.

Because the interventions stayed modest, the plan still reads as a home rather than a sequence of showpieces. The two seating areas remain close in scale, the kitchen keeps its view to the garden, and the pool sits comfortably within the interior concept. For a 1990s villa, that kind of reset matters. The architecture is not hidden; it is clarified through materials, light and a few precise insertions.
