Northern Lights Lofts

That former school building has been transformed into 12 luxury apartments. The ceilings are high and the light is particularly beautiful due to the high windows and the installation of new French doors.

The layout in this building was very complex, mainly because we wanted to keep the stairwell and hallways with original tiles. Every home is thought out and utilized to the inch. The old classrooms were 6 meters high, so we installed a sleeping loft in each house, made entirely of glass & steel to preserve as much light and spaciousness as possible. On the first floor we dug out a seating pit 70 cm deep, in which the lounge was placed. An additional space that makes this home even more unique. Oak Z stairs interrupt the herringbone flooring and add warmth and ambiance.

Also important was to make the homes gasless and incorporate the heat pumps invisibly, it resulted in homes with A+++ labels – extra important in this day and age. With a strong lighting plan where ambient lighting is paired with technical lighting that was essential given the height of the building, all spaces are highlighted appropriately.

Authentic details from the school building such as the old toilet doors, the school bell and original tiles can be found in the homes, with the staircase with beautiful stained glass restored to its former glory.

Shades of green, terrazzo, a warm cast floor and wood complement this, all in the style of the old school.

The end result is impressive – unique lofts ready for the future.
