Sleek thatched villa
In an authentic neighborhood on a leafy avenue with beautiful tall trees, there was a house for sale. The family fell for the location, but the old house on it was not their taste. They decided to demolish the old house and build a new villa. A thatched villa with clean lines and high gutter lines, with this wish she knocked on our door. A great design challenge for us, as this neighborhood did not yet have any “modern” villas!
A RITE-CLOSED VILLA WITH STRONG LINES IN AN AUTHENTIC AREA
Our design process started with a moment of happiness. In fact, the zoning for the site was quite summary. We had almost complete design freedom, allowing the family’s wishes to be carried through into the design. A true dream villa was created. A villa with a thatched roof, clean lines, symmetrical and high gutter lines. Only the third floor has sloping roofs, creating a lot of space.
A narrow lot calls for a logical floor plan; all spaces must be used to their fullest potential. We chose a loft-like floor plan. A cozy open space, connecting to all areas of the villa. Very cozy, but still the family finds it important that everyone can close themselves off when the need arises, so there are four pivot doors installed. All rooms can be closed off and everyone in can enjoy privacy.
DETAILING AND MATERIALIZATION
Finishing and detailing is a high priority for us. It gives the villa the look it deserves. The family’s mood board featured large roof overhangs, bold and rustic! Therefore, we gave the thatched roof overhangs of one meter. And the cladding? Horizontal, wood combines with white keim work. A beautiful blend with the thatched roof. Additional luxury and appearance has been generated by the application of a bluestone baseboard, sills and playband. The window frames are tall, black and with rods. They complete the villa.
