Temporary span deSingel antwerp
The architecture of the building is particularly strong (a modernist realization by architect Léon Stynen) with later additions by architect Stéphane Beel.
To create a third addition in the courtyard between 2 such large architects – even if temporarily – is still bold and challenging.
The organic design of the sails is certainly also modernist in nature. White is the color of Stynen’s entire building. The lens-shaped openings between the sails refer to Léon Stynen’s organically designed windows in the entrance hall, which contrast sharply with the clean orthogonal lines of the rest of the building. In turn, these organically designed windows by Léon Stynen refer directly to Le Corbusier (Chandigahr). See attached photo from Alamy.
So my work is a kind of homage to various grand masters of architecture.
