Underflow Pool with Lake View

The underflow pool sits as the clearest line in the garden, drawing the house toward the water beyond the lawn. Its rectangular shape, low continuous waterline and concrete edge give the pool a measured presence, while the reflective pool surface picks up the sky, the trees and the darker tones of the house. From the first view, the project reads as a spatial link rather than a separate object.

A low waterline that holds the view

The mirror waterline runs evenly along the basin, so the water appears to stretch flat and still across the garden. That calm surface is what connects the domestic side of the plot with the wider view toward the lake. The pool does not interrupt the setting; it frames it. The result is a clear pool view toward the lake, with the water acting as a visual pause between the lawn and the landscape beyond.

The geometry is direct. Straight edges, a long rectangle and restrained proportions keep attention on the horizontal line of the pool. A concrete pool edge and lawn meet without visual clutter, and the grass on both sides gives the water a sharper outline. In several views, the pool reads almost like a drawn line cut into the garden, with reflections softening that strictness as soon as light touches the surface.

Water, lawn and the edge of the terrace

Along the side, the concrete terrace forms a firm boundary beside the basin. It gives the water a crisp edge and lets the pool sit cleanly against the garden surface. The lawn runs close to this border, so the transition from cut grass to concrete to water is easy to read. That sequence is one of the project’s strongest qualities: each material has a clear role, and none of them competes for attention.

Seen from above and from the side, the modern pool in landscaped garden settings depends on these measured moves. The pool is not dressed up with extra elements. Instead, the eye moves from the pale terrace to the green lawn, then back to the reflective water surface. The composition stays open, and the view remains directed toward the water beyond the garden, which gives the whole setting its focus.

Reflections that pull the house into the garden

The house appears in the pool as a set of dark lines and light surfaces. Large windows, pale plaster and the rietgedekte roof are broken up by the reflection on the water, so the building seems to hover between the garden and the basin. This reflective pool surface does more than mirror form. It brings the architecture into the landscape and makes the connection between indoor space and outdoor ground legible in a single glance.

That effect is strongest where the water stays still. The underflow pool gathers the surrounding tones without turning the image busy: blue in the water, green in the lawn and trees, antracite in the window frames, and the pale facade set against them. The surface works as a field of reflection, not as decoration. It gives the garden depth and makes the edge toward the water beyond feel closer than it is.

A rectilinear basin with a quiet profile

The basin itself is held to a strict rectangle, which suits the long lines of the garden. Its low profile keeps the water close to the ground, so the pool never rises above the setting. That restraint gives the project its calm reading. Even the details visible in the water, including the texture of the basin and a round built-in opening, stay subordinate to the larger spatial line. The eye remains with the pool shape and the surrounding lawn.

Because the pool is so plainly articulated, the underflow pool becomes a marker of orientation in the garden. It shows where the house ends and where the open landscape begins. The concrete edge and lawn create a clear threshold, while the low continuous waterline keeps that threshold visually light. It is a simple arrangement, but one that relies on precision in proportion and placement.

Material contrasts kept to a minimum

Nothing here feels overworked. Concrete, grass, pale plaster and the riet roof are the main materials, and each one does a different job in the view. The concrete pools edge and terrace give the composition weight; the lawn softens that weight without blurring the outline; the facade and roof bring a sheltered domestic layer behind the water. Because the palette is restrained, the reflections on the pool surface become even more noticeable.

The project also benefits from the way the garden is kept open around the basin. Trees appear at the edges, and the distant water body remains visible through the garden boundary. That long sightline is what makes the setting feel spacious. The underflow pool does not close the garden in; it points through it. For that reason, the pool view toward the lake remains the defining image of the project, repeated in still water, clean lines and the open strip of lawn.

Where the garden meets the water beyond

From the far end of the plot, the pool and the background water seem almost to answer each other. The reflective pool surface picks up the same idea of stillness that appears beyond the garden, so the transition between near and far is easy to understand. The underflow pool becomes the intermediary plane in that sequence. It sits in the foreground, but its role is to extend the view rather than hold it back.

The final impression is controlled and quiet. A rectangular basin, a mirror waterline, a band of concrete and a cut lawn are enough to shape the scene. The architecture stays present through its reflections, the garden stays open through its clear edges, and the distant water remains visible as the end point of the view. In that relationship, the project gains its strongest quality: not spectacle, but a direct line between house, garden and the landscape beyond.
