Villa Nieuwkoop Lakes
The villa is located on a through road at the lakes near Nieuwkoop. Initially, this lot was attached to the lot on the east side. But because boating was and is very important to the client, we wanted to facilitate him being able to use his sloop to sail into his house. Therefore, a waterway was dug and the lot became an island unto itself.
The Nieuwkoop lakes were created from the extraction of peat starting in the 16th century. The peat mining that created the ponds was an inspiration for us. The continuous axis / line of sight in the villa therefore has the appearance of stacked peat blocks and is executed with natural stone which was specially customized in Macedonia.
The sight line was created to draw attention to the view of the ponds. For example, it is now possible when standing on the access bridge to look through the house at the puddles. Every time the client comes home, they are reminded of why they live there: namely, the fantastic view and nature.
In addition to ponds and erratic waterways, this area has a large area of reed beds. Reed farming still uses a considerable area and still provides employment for people in and around Nieuwkoop and Noorden. The “nod” to thatch was made by using standing wooden slats as cladding in several places. Alternating with thicknesses and widths reinforces the reference to reeds.
All in all, a villa has thus been designed with a modern look that fits into its surroundings.
