The Couture front row!
You have to be lucky to find the right relation in your network but if you ever have the opportunity to attend a real, high end fashion show, do not hesitate and take your chance! It really is a very special experience. CS rugs has thankfully experienced it a few times by now.
In January 2019, for the first time we were invited to the show of most successful Dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen. Location: Palais des Beaux-Arts in Paris. We attended the beautiful fashion show and afterwards we were even allowed to visit the Atelier Néerlandais where we could have a closer look at all the beautiful dresses. Ab-so-lute stunning artwork out of the most delicate materials with dazzling details.
Madness
It is very busy and crowded during fashion week in Paris. Fast-paced Vogue mini cars tear through town. Shows are organized everywhere and the long lines in front of the most beautiful buildings attract attention from afar. Not the prominent guests of course, they are dropped off in front of the building in expensive cabs and immediately surrounded by hordes of photographers. Around the building where the show is about to begin, all kinds of models frolic in the most extravagant clothing, doing this on purpose to be noticed and caught by the photographers. The more photographers, the more “bees come to the honey.” It’s contagious and it often results in more bookings.
Daughters
The second time that a show was coming up and the invitation fell on the [design] mat at CS rugs, it was exactly the time that both daughters had taken their final exams. How cool would it be to be able to do this with them. With a good dose of courage, our contact person was contacted to explain the issue. And his reaction was full of enthusiasm! Of course he would like to welcome two potential customers….
Inspired by this high fashion world and fascination for materials, the CS rugs ‘Couture collection’ was created. Textile bindings converted to 3D patterns. The rugs are soft and elegant, in various designs.
The seats
Once inside, the names or numbers are on the seats. Our seat is in row 5, quite a nice place. The experience of previous shows however, has taught us something: just before the start there are still some places left empty in the front row and it is a matter of perfect timing. If you are too early and the original “owner” comes to claim his or -most likely- her chair, then a little walk of shame is a fact. But if you are lucky you can watch the entire show front row! A bit of arrogance and big sunglasses will work.
And so we were, all dressed up, at the Elysée Monmartre in Paris, just around the corner from the Sacré-Coeur. How cool it was! The models, their looks, the immense beautiful clothes, the celebrities being present, including Céline Dion, and the magic of the catwalk. It was over quite quickly, but it was an experience for a lifetime.
