Surprising extension behind traditional facade

Renovation Aalsmeer

A surprising extension is hidden behind this traditional facade. Those who enter the front door of this apparently small workers’ house will be surprised by the light, contemporary interior. The ground floor of the house was expanded in the 1970s with a patio garden in the middle. Although the patio provided a lot of light, the house was divided in a huddle. After the residents had lived in their new, old house for several months, they had a good idea of their wishes.

Carlo and Jasper then designed a new surprising layout in which the bedrooms and bathrooms were placed in the front house. The ground floor is largely reserved for the bedrooms and the children’s bathroom, while the parents have their domain on the cozy floor. Family life takes place in the extension. There is a large living room with kitchen, dining area and spacious seating area around a fireplace. Natural light enters through the new rear façade with two large French windows, which also offer a beautiful view of the garden, and through the glass roof above the former patio. The rafters in sight give the space its very own character. A television corner is also accessible from the living space, as is a large utility room that leads to the garage. The house with old and industrial elements forms a perfect basis for the personal interior that the residents have created.
