Bob Manders

Bob Manders is an architect who combines the past with a passion for innovation. He makes use of the best of his own Dutch heritage – for example an appreciation of Rembrandt’s use of light – and combines this with architectural principles from recognised masters from Vitruvius to Le Corbusier, as an addition to his own unique approach. The result? Unpredictable yet harmonious spaces that feel at home anywhere in the world.

Manders believes that a considered respect for light, shadow and the way nature influences our surroundings is the key to the success of his designs. He makes extensive use of glass in a way in which he connects the interior with the outside world. Thus, the natural materials he chooses to work with often still reveal the ways in which they were produced – wood may still bear the marks of a saw, or, for example, a stone tile may have a quarry or bear the imprint of the instrument used to polish it. According to Manders, this preserves authenticity and creates designs that are both calming and energetic.
