Outside and yet inside

This Renson Camargue patio canopy in Knokke turns a beautiful terrace into an atmospheric lounge area used in all seasons and temperatures.

The owners of this attractive Knok villa with garden love aesthetic and practical solutions. For example, they chose a stylish wooden deck that slides over the pool when not in use. To make it complete, a patio cover was still missing, the owner explains. There’s a beautiful garden set on the terrace, but I didn’t want to drag cushions in and out all the time. Of course you can opt for plastic covers, but if you have unexpected visitors and it rains, you end up with a garden full of plastic. To solve that, we went looking for a patio cover and that’s how we ended up at Renson.’

Here, the Camargue, a stylish and fully customizable patio canopy from Renson, has become an additional outdoor room that can cover the pool or patio as desired. Because the terrace is sliding, you can still sit completely under the bare sky if the weather permits. On the other hand, you can also opt for complete privacy thanks to the Loggia sliding panels at the rear, whose tilting cedar slats in the aluminum frames can be opened or closed as desired, and the screens on the three remaining sides.

Best of both worlds

In other words, the owners were looking for both an airy construction under which you can sit sheltered, but where you still have the feeling of being outside at all times (the tilting roof slats take care of that), and a “cosy” shielded outdoor space where you can enjoy the terrace or pool in complete privacy.

The owner agrees, “When the sun shines, we can enjoy it as much as before, but when we leave the terrace, we don’t have to clean up the cushions. When we are not at home and it starts to rain, the rain sensor automatically reacts by closing the slatted roof. If the wind is too strong on one of the sides, we close the screen on that side and we are out of the draft. When the evenings are a little cooler, we turn on the built-in infrared heater. Very cozy, with the dimmable LED lights. Sometimes we even aperitif outside in the pit of winter.’ (laughs)

Perfect harmony

In terms of style, materials and colors, the Camargue patio cover fits perfectly with the atmosphere of the house and garden. “People who come here for the first time don’t believe that the patio cover didn’t come until later,” says the owner. ‘She chose the colors and wood based on the home’s outdoor furniture, joinery and patio tiles. To bring the sleek, modernity of the aluminum closer to the home’s Knokke cottage style, wood accents were chosen in the Loggia panels.

The screens are the classic Sergé fiberglass screens with a seven-year warranty, partially transparent and therefore not completely blackout. With the screens, it was also not the intention to make it completely dark under the canopy, but to screen in function of privacy and wind. Looking in from outside is not possible, but you can still enjoy the garden from the terrace with the screens closed.

Better outdoor living

The owner is also very satisfied with the installation by Renson ambassador Decoranda. ‘Everything was executed perfectly, down to the details. Everything we asked for was resolved professionally. Placed at the end of the garden, the structure immediately catches the eye and adds value to the whole. And the changeable Belgian weather no longer prevents us from enjoying the outdoors every day if we want to.’
