Home is golden

In the bustling Belgian port city, a lady lives with her two sons. She is a coach, has her own home practice and describes herself as a “messy person.

Borders closed
Interior designer Denise Kwinten says, “This lady had looked at my Pinterest page through our website. Because my style appealed to her, she contacted me. Due to corona measures, the borders in Belgium were temporarily closed and we couldn’t meet. So we initially discussed her wishes by phone and email.’

Not too much frills
‘I got the floor plan of the beautiful old house with the high windows and ceilings. There is a fireplace in every room. She was happy to honor that one. There was to be a TV room where her sons could chill out and the top floor would serve for her office with lots of storage options (due to her – by her own admission – messy nature), plus a meeting/workshop space. Everything in a quiet style, without too much frills.’

Warm design
Denise filmed her project drawing with all the swatches so Ms. got an idea of layout, colors and materials. ‘As soon as the weather allowed, I traveled to Antwerp to measure the spaces and make final arrangements. Then we could go ahead. Including warm design by Montis (sofas), Moooi and CS Rugs (rugs) and Prades (armchair). For the coffee tables, I chose petrified wood which links to the marble fireplaces. In the office, which is lit by Catellani & Smith, you will find furniture by Arco.’ Denise is satisfied. And the customer? Who has the living and working space of her dreams!
