House on Bonaire
New construction | Bonaire
In this Bonaire home, the wind blows through your hair. The premise of the design was to take full advantage of the cooling breeze that always blows on the tropical island. Therefore, the house was built on the most common wind direction. With the vertical, hardwood slats, residents control natural ventilation. Expensive air conditioning is therefore unnecessary in this sustainable home. The home is all on one level and houses a large, cozy living area and kitchen, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a utility room and storage room. The veranda, used year-round, makes the house almost twice the size and prevents the sun from shining directly inside. The porch is the gathering place for the residents’ children and grandchildren.
Numerous local materials such as concrete, natural stone, hardwood and driftwood were used in the construction of this tropical home. Cacti make a special, natural yard border. Therefore, the residents consider their home a true home of Bonaire, of course equipped with lovely pool.
