TWIN DOORS

Inside look: There is so much more than black

“We wanted metal doors, but not black,” says Suze Steenhuis-Donderwinkel about the TWIN DOORS that separate her living room and dining room. That desire resulted in unique doors that make a statement in the home through the combination of robust aluminum and a natural hue.

“There is so much more than black,” says Suze. “Our house has a dark kitchen, which we thought was enough. For the connection between the dining room and living room, we wanted to choose a different color to match the interior. For example, gold or bronze. By searching by color I found TWIN DOORS via the Internet.” Yet in the end, she did not choose a metallic hue. The color that now adorns the Doetinchem home can best be described as the color of the beach where you can see the salt crystals glistening very subtly on a sunny day. “This color is called Precious Sand and has a coating with tiny metal particles that gives it a soft sheen,” she explains. This special coating is made by EUROLACKE Powder Coatings, the specialist in high-quality coatings.

Attention to every detail
In making their choice, Suze and her friend Hans Steenhuis did not walk overnight. “We designed, finished and furnished this house ourselves. Attention was paid to every detail. That is why we were so pleased to be able to visit TWIN DOORS’ showroom in Geldermalsen, you get a much better feel for it. There we also saw how many possibilities there are to personalize these doors. Not only in terms of color, but also in terms of the arrangement of the windows. So much more was possible than we expected. For example, we could adjust the height of the transoms to fit the room. We had ourselves well informed about this and later made our final choice on the basis of the color samples that were sent to us. The result is a sturdy door – sleek, modern and with a soft hue – that really stands out.”

Turning to two sides
What they didn’t know beforehand is that pivot doors turn in two directions. “That was a positive surprise,” Suze says. “Just as the sunlight always finds a different path through our house, it also gives us freedom of movement. During the day the doors are often closed, at night they are usually open. In this way they expand the living room or make it more intimate.”
