Kitchen design
Location and history
Naarden is one of the best preserved fortified towns in Europe and especially famous for its unique star shape. The fortress has six bastions, a double wall and double moats. Bordering the Bredius Quarter of Bussum is this detached home. The villa was built in the 1930s and contains the typical characteristic architecture as rich masonry facades and roof overhangs. The house was already mostly renovated, however, the kitchen was dated.
Design
We created a new design for the kitchen and utility room with an extension. To include the current kitchen space in the expansion, we created the countertop as a connecting element. The nearly 8-meter-long countertop is made of concrete and was poured and polished on site (on the job). The concrete countertop includes integrated “pitt cooking.
The cabinets of the kitchen are made of light oak. The countertop flows into a bar area. At the bar area there is locally in the concrete countertop an electric “floor” heater, this way the “cold is off” when sitting at the bar. Above the bar area, the roof is locally raised, containing windows all around. These windows bring a nice natural light into the dining area.
