Lofthouse CK Schepdaal
The experience of a loft, with the comfort of a new-build home, sounded the assignment. Large open spaces that absorb and radiate the environment. In the concept phase, we were able to quickly distinguish between the functional spaces (storage rooms, home office,…) and the experience spaces (living space, kitchen,…). Breakfast in the east, lunch in the south and chilling in the evening sun. Large sliding doors on the south side disappear into the facade and give a greater indoor – outdoor experience.
We wanted to keep the functional space compact without losing too much m2, we preferred to use the gained m2 in the experience spaces. We then designed two boxes that manifest themselves as independent volumes in the large space. A box-in-box system to create a maximum “loft” feeling. A “plan libre” not only by accommodating its structure but also by accommodating the technical space (storage, kitchen, day office, …).
On the upper floor, intimacy is created by an enclosed terrace that connects the multipurpose room with the master bedroom. The children’s rooms also open onto the enclosed roof terrace and are protected from the southern sun by an awning construction. The north side remains completely closed and houses all non-light-sensitive areas.
The facade has an uncompromising interplay of lines in white and black facade cladding. Even the entrance door was directed by the lines, making the house a sleek mathematical object.
