Modern house with sloping roof
In Amsterdam’s Nieuw-West district, the site of the former police academy has been redeveloped into a neighborhood of free lots for private housing. Buildings are subject to a limited number of building regulations including a maximum gutter height of 4.5 meters and a maximum ridge height of 10 meters. In addition, there is a maximum built-up area of 100m2. In addition to the maximum built-up area, permit-free expansion is allowed. The neighborhood is welfare free.
Tough look in dark shades of gray
The clients themselves had a clear picture in mind. It should be a modern house with a cool look. They themselves had already spent evenings sketching floor plans and making volume studies.
The design consists of a main volume with pitched roof and a lower addition with flat roof. The sloping roof is relatively steep at the front. The large dormer gives the design character. The house is designed almost entirely in shades of anthracite. The roof and upstairs facades consist of aluminum fascia boards. The plinth is constructed of anthracite masonry. These two parts are separated by window strips.
