Small dyke house becomes spacious family home
New construction | Leimuiden
This spacious family home has been built on the site of a small, old dike house. The design takes into account the expansive environment, the desire to use natural and sustainable materials and the permitted building size. The house is partly built in and behind the dike. This makes the house look like a picturesque dyke house from the side of the dike, while the full extent of the house is visible behind the dike. Traditional features (thatched roof, plastered facade, black wood) are applied here in a contemporary way. The small windows repeat in the interior, which is light and spacious, with a beautiful view of the polder landscape.
The residents of this house committed to sustainable construction. This was fleshed out by additional insulating facilities, a TES installation (heat and cold storage) and a roof of reed from the surrounding area.
