Wallpaper as a starting point
‘The most special thing about this project? That we started with the wall covering! Our customers were delighted with Elitis’ velour embossed wallpaper from the Twill collection. Then we looked at which items could move with us to Tilburg.
Velvet on the wall
A cozy couple from Goirle decided to exchange their home for an apartment on the 46th floor of Westpoint in Tilburg. Meijs’ consultant Karien Heffels worked with them to design an interior that turned the 308-square-meter space into a cozy home. ‘Bookcases and family antiques – plus the wallpaper, in other words – were the first elements I was able to work with.’
Gold and ochre
‘Unique about this house is the size and the view. You can see as far as the Efteling and on clear days even as far as Den Bosch and Breda. That spaciousness also presented the challenge of making it homely and ‘its own’.’ Team Meijs tackled it step by step. ‘The gold/ochre yellow of the wallpaper returns in various pieces, such as the Perletta rug, candlesticks, decorative cushions and the large photographs on Plexiglas by Cobra Art. The sofa in contrasting green is from Gelderland. And for extra storage space, we had custom-made cabinets by Van Beek Collection.’
Table through the middle
“The shade of the dining room chairs also fits in beautifully,” Karien says. ‘We only had a little problem with the dining table we wanted: due to its length of 3 meters 60, it did not fit in the elevator! Fortunately, manufacturer Arco was able to make it in two parts and provide it with a center leg, so that it offers nice stable space for many guests.’ Above the table came Gubi’s Multilight three times; a personal favorite of Karien’s own. Karien: ‘How they like the end result? They are absolutely delighted!’
